95 days until DH & I are in Kauai!!! We are going to Kauai from May 28-June 4!

Our trip will coincide with DH's 30th bday! It has been almost four years, too long, since we have been to Kauai so this has been a long time coming!

We went to Oahu in August 2005 for our honeymoon which was our first time to Hawaii then we went to Kauai in May & August of 2007. We absolutely fell in love with Kauai! We just can't wait until that plane lands on May 28!

razzledazzle -- are we going to overlap on the BI? And DH wants to go to the North Shore of Oahu later on, and wants to know about that house you rented there. E-mail at charneesmit at yahoo.com

99 now

I love the North Shore of Oahu Charnees - we rented a wonderful house on the ocean there in 2003 or so - it was fabulous!

Louis - we will just miss you in Kauai - we arrive in Oahu on the 2nd and in Kauai on the 7th

37 days for us! We are staying on Maui. We will be celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Does anyone have any recommendations about ziplining? I've been looking at the Skyline zipline in Kanapali. Also, would a luau (Old Lahaina Luau) be worth the money for two children ages 5 and 8? Last, what about the road to Hana with the kids? I saw on here where someone recommended Valley Isle Excursions instead of driving our own rental car to Hana. I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks!

We loved the Old Lahaina Luau but it was almost 15 years ago so I am reluctant to recommend something that I have not been to in15 years - I will say I recommended to many friends over the years and they all loved it.

I am not sure about the road to Hana - what are your expectations? If they get car sick at all I would pass. I would bring them up to the volcano though.

With kids I would say the only caveat on driving to Hana is they might get carsick. It would be much better to be in your own car so you can stop if necessary. We have driven it several times and although it's narrow and winding, it's not so bad as some people fear. And it's so beautiful!

We're celebrating his 6th birthday and spending one last fun filled week with our baby before he goes home to the lord. among many of the exciting activities scheduled we'll be taken on a helicopter tour and snorkiling with sea turtles! he's hoping to "ride a dolphin" (we'll see how that turns out! lol) i'm hoping to have a birthday dinner at a loau- he turned 6 on feb.18th but we havnt gotten a chance to give him a celebration fit for the hero he is. I cant wait to leave that hospital bed and get him out in the sunshine! for the first time in 2.5 yrs he'll get to be that care free child i once knew. he'll get to play with his brothers and sleep at home/hotel with mommy and daddy. our family will be whole for awhile, i cant wait to see my son and my husband for that matter smile again! thank you make a wish foundation!

My first trip to Hawaii was a family reunion about 5 years ago. We went to Old Lahaina Luau and everyone loved it.

Since then I've been back (to Oahu) four more times, three solo and once with a friend. I'm sure I'll be there sometime soon (but I never plan my trips very far in advance).

brandiemarie~ How very cool. Wishing you and your family a fabulous wish-filled trip!

Thanks for the comments, especially the advice about Hana with kids in tow. We may pass on that this time around. My kids don't typically get carsick, but the road to Hana is like no other.
I think the we'll do the luau (OLL) for the cultural education.
I hope Brandiemarie and family have an incredible family vacation. Blessings to you all!

Well... bringing it up - the count-down continues

We booked our airfare last night - while I had to spend that chunk of change on flying - it is booked now - it went down to 850.00 for non-stop. We are spoiled coming from the west coast I use to be able to grab under 400.00 r/t at times - sigh. It was up to 1,000 - 1,200 on certain days. Yikes.

Unfortunately I had to change our stay around slightly and we are now not going to our favorite island of Kauai but will be spending 7 nights - 8 days on Oahu. Not complaining.

Kids get bored at OLL.

Pick a luau with a fire knife dancer. They are much more entertaining.

Brandiemarie,

I hope you have wonderful trip. Hawaii is a very spiritual place along with being a fun, beautiful place. I hope you make many special memories.

We have been invited to go to Maui with our bff's the first week in April and I am in negations with my husband to convince him to go! I have had a bumpy year and I am being released today from the hospital after surgery so I will be using this to my advantage! All is fair in love and travel!

May 6th is our departure date. 3 islands this time - BI, Kauai, and Oahu. We're taking my MIL for her 75th birthday as a "bucket list" thing. Thank goodness for the Northwest/Delta merger! That's how we're able to do this. 2 tickets free and 1 half-price- in the FRONT of the bus! Thanks also to my Marriott Visa card. We couldn't do it without you, baby!
