Yes but having more time means you can relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. Once you're there, you wouldn't want to leave!

Hi Dina I went one time to Honolulu for the Martin Luther King Weekend. I think I added one day. It was a incredible break in my winter. So funny snow was coming down when I was leaving the office. I remember saying so long you snow bound suckers. Although they thought I was headed to LA, could not admit the Hawaii trip out loud. Did tell one senior person who had no quames openly admitting to a trip that same weekend to Spain. I had to laugh out loud.

On most trips I think you need at least 5 days on one island. The way to make this trip easier on your body is to leave straight from work on an evening flight to the west coast, get a hotel room and then a morning flight to hukilau country. It will be great. I would certainly stay on one island in only 7-8 days Maui or Kauai are good bets for one week stays, so is Oahu but more natural beauty on the other two. Kauai is best in summer, iffy other times of the year. Maui is great for whale season in winter and good most times of the year. A-L-O-H-A!!

P.S I was traveling to Hawaii from NYC. Also you want to remember that you have direct flight options (continental) from Newark, that means a flight of only 9-10 hours. Only problem is when those flights take off either 6.am getting you there zonked at 12pm or 6pm refreshed but at Hawaii's sunset. Let me know what you are doing Dina.

Plenty of people would not think twice about going to Israel (same flight time) for a week. I know even more people that would truck to Europe for log weekends. Italy is a 7-8 hour flight and you loose time coming back because of departure times. Did a four day week in Milan a few thanksgivings. It was great. Great deals shopping, great dinners out. I did see some sights in between shopping far more than I expected.

On all of my brief trips one idea has always made the travel successful. That is just a different expectation of what I will be able to see and do. Trying to see several islands would probably spoil the mood but plenty of people think 3-4 days on each island is fine, not a good idea for me at all. One week on an island will be great though better than not going, yes?

May there is a luau in Central Park this weekend it is being put on by the "Hawaii Cultural Foundation". It is a potluck but there will be some hula and music, food. You should call them and get some details, see if it is open to non-members.

Yes Yes Yes. The first time we went (from Chicago, which is not actually that much closer - less than 2 hours usually) we made the mistake of taking flights that stopped in LA, then Honolulu, then Kauai. The second two flights were delayed by several hours and we ended up in Kauai at about 10 p.m. and still had to drive up to the Princeville (we had started in Chicago at 8:00 a.m. so it was a pretty full day of travel). We had the most fantastic time. If that was my only choice to go to Hawaii, I would not even have to think about it for a second - I would be on the plane in a heartbeat.

Hi Sarah, do you know if the luau this weekend is on Saturday, Sunday, or both days? It wouldn't be a bad to go for a stroll this weekend in Central Park. Heard its going to be a nice weekend. Do you have more info about it? I went on the HHF site and they don't have anything on it. Thanks.

If you scroll down to events you should see it, looks like this year they are calling it a potluck picnic. It is on June 2, 11:30 on. I would call and see if it is open to the public. It is largely a gathering I think of Hawaiians and former residents living in the tri state area. I have never been to this picnic but have been to other events. If you do plan to go and eat remember it is potluck.

This is a pretty interesting organization they only put on 4-5 events a year but when they do it is a little bit of aloha in NYC.
