From suburban DC, Gaithersburg, MD - The birds were singing their hearts out this morning! The poor things are going to be as confused as the flowers when the weather changes back to winter again, as always does this early in the year. I do wish I could take the rest of the day off to take advantage of the day as the temperatures are going to approach 70. For everyone who can get outdoors today, ENJOY!

Winter's been cancelled? That's news to me. I'm working from home today because our car and truck are stuck in our sloping, gravelly driveway (western Washington state) and can't get out. Maybe if it warms up a little.
I'm really, really glad we don't get snow very often...

Ah believe that this unusual weather is caused by the event known as global warming. Under mah plan ah could have saved the environment bah the year 2010. Under mah opponent's plan we are doomed to burn in the fires of hell right here on earth. You'll remember that ah told you the number one problem facing America was the environment, didn't ah? Sorry, but ah didn't even think about terrorism at the time.

Well, Nina, I don't know where you are in Southern California, but in my corner - San Diego - it's very cold (for here!)After a lot of rain overnight, the temerature is now 50F, and we're expecting more rain later today and the snow level is around 2000ft. After this storm leaves us to go visit all you sun lovers in the mid west and on the east coast, we're supposed to have a couple of cold, dry days, then more rain at the weekend. We're all pretty happy to see rain, but it makes the roads very slippy at first, till all the oil has washed away.

It's so beautiful near Chicago that the teenagers are doing cheerleading practice with their short shorts costumes on. Big boom for the car wash people and bust for the plow brigade. I love that I'm getting to use all my old spring and in-between coats that you usually get to use for about 2 or 3 days in March, if you're lucky.
Last weekend all the motor bikes were out again, and those who hadn't drained oil etc. for winter had the last laugh. I love the weather here, as you are constantly surprised by change. Maples have started to bud and some crocus are simply confused, doing a sort of start and stop thing. I have some perennials that were snow covered but really never died back this year yet. One year we received a foot and a half of snow on April Fool's Day. Could happen again but it would melt quickly now anyway. I've heard that the Michigan ski locations are mostly a total bust this year. Our club had to cancel the Marquette trip. If this keeps up, I think we will go canoeing next weekend.

Well, skiers, we've got winter big time here in Park City, Utah ! It's been snowing all day and we LOVE IT!!!!! More, more, more.....Park City has 30 inches (new) so far and that means Alta & Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon have lots more. Could be a snorkle day! There will be a lot of people calling in sick tomorrow. Powder to the people!

So the term "global warming" - and all that it will entrail - really does *not* mean a thing to anyone, does it?
The Great Lakes are drying up, folks. Does anyone stop to think what it will mean when places accustomed to a frozen dormant period, and lots of snow cover...have neither? The effects on every bit of life, from a micro-organism now exposed on a stretch of shore to plants, trees, animals....? The ecological toll of this winter....and who knows what else to come....is going to be a whole lot more serious than just the chance to romp about in shorts in January.
