I saw Dan Marino, John Elway, Ronnie Lott and Mike Shanahan playing blackjack at the Mirage; Shannon Doherty and Tori Spelling walking down Front Street in Lahaina; and Olympia Dukakis at a post concert party for Cher at the Sands in Atlantic City.

I am a "celebrity" and I've been watching this entry with great interest. I never in a million years thought I would become a celebrity, and when I was growing up I thought it looked like fun. I am grateful to the people, like someone above, who let us be when we're in a public place (the we being my spouse and children). I want to take my kids to restaurants, museums, vacations--all the things you do with your kids. It's hard on them because I'm nobody but dad to them, warts and all. I want to take my kids school-clothes shopping just like I did with my mom when I was a kid, but it usually turns into a fiasco. I guess my point is to let celebrity families especially have their time together just like you do. It sounds as if you all have respected the privacy of those you've met--they appreciate it, let me tell you.

I was an intern at MTV in New YOrk this summer, and got a chance to meet quiet a few celebs. You'd be surprised how many you can spot on the NYC subways as well! Carson Daly of MTV is just as nice in person as he seems on tv...I also met, the Backstree Boys, and Janet Jackson. In my hometown, Pres. Bill Clinton visited one of the elementary schools here last year, and I got a chance to meet him as well. I dont care what people say, he's a really nice man. Very polite and well spoken.

Has anyone met or observed in person either of our illustrious Presidential candidates? What were they REALLY like.

My family was dining in Atlanta during the Olympics. My 9-year-old son came out of the bathroom and almost bumped into a woman. She said to him - "Well I suppose YOU want my autograph" - to which my son replied - "Why?" having no idea who she was.

He was watching the Olympics that night and started yelling at us to come see the person in the audience who had been rude to him in the restaurant. It was Demi Moore.

And no, he did not ask for an autograph!

We were playing craps last year at the Bellagio (2:00 AM) and Kevin Costner was playing blackjack at the next table. He had his bodyguard with him and a "California blonde." Our butler informed us that he was staying in the villa next the our's. Several people asked him for an autograph and he was very accommodating. He looked great in jeans, too!

TJ: Yes, I saw Al Gore in person when he made a campaign stop in Charlotte NC back in 1992. Interestingly, he came across as VERY charismatic and spoke very well at an event there and did not seem stiff at all. Since moving to Washington I have seen him in person several times. He has less hair now. He is a very big man in person, taller and more barrel-chested than he looks on TV. I think he is funnier and more personable when he is talking informally with a few people than he is on TV. He has a great laugh. I have never seen George Bush but a good friend of mine who lives in Austin TX has seen him several times and says he is an absolute charmer when you talk to him (even though she is not a big fan of his) and very engaging.

I attended a show of "ambient/techno" myusic at The Knitting Factory here in NYC. Colin Newman (of the band Wire, for those who followed contemporary music in the 80's) and his partner Malka Spegal (sp?) out on a great set despite a relatively small turnout. My concertgoing partner insisted that it was Graham Nash (of crosby, Stills and Nash) standing next to us throughout the show. I thought it might be the case and later had it confirmed as fact by someone representing the performers. As is so often the case in NYC, no one bugged him for autographs or conversation and let him enjoy the show in peace (I also allow for the possibility that no one else int hat rather eclectic crowd even recognized him).

Living around NYC I have seen many famous people Helen Hayes,Bill Murray,Willam Hurt,Stephan Baldwin,Steven Tyler and I could go on and on.No I am not in the business but my most memorable was at Le Bernardin. We sat down and I glanced at the large round table next to us-Jackie Kennedy,Maurice Templeton,John F Kennedy Jr.(no date),his sister Caroline and her husband.Everyone in the room was taking side glances. No one appproached them, but when John went to use the men's room,an attractive young woman got up to go to the Ladies room and engaged him in a conversation.
What imppressed me no reporters,no Papparozzi,no autograph seekers they were able to have a normal eveniing out.
Yes John was very handsome, and Jackie very elegant,it was an unforgetable night a year or two before Jackie passed away.

At the Atlanta airport, golfer Greg Norman, who was racing through the terminal, bumped into my husband. He smiled and said, "Scuse me, mate!" It reminds me of Crocodile Dundee.

I was unfortunate enought to see Dennis Rodman and Carmen Elektra last Halloween at a San Francisco nightclub. She was spanking him on the dance floor, that progressed to pulling down his pants and putting her mouth on places better left for the privacy of their own room/cage/island. Luckily one of the bouncers stopped her dead in her tracks!

I agree with "celebrity" John. I live in the Denver area and have seen John Elway around town on numerous occasions, sometimes with family. Each time, whether sitting at a restaurant or riding his Harley up the mountain, he is swamped by autograph seekers and the like. He handles every encounter with graciousness and patience. I feel sorry for him so have never approached even though he is a hero to my husband and son. People should live and let live and not invade other peoples privacy for selfish purposes.

I disagree with "Celebrity John." For the most part, that is....

If someone PUTS himself into celebrity status, i.e. movie stars, professional athletes. they need to be aware it goes with the territory. Of course, I don't mean OBSESSIVE fans. But NOT to expect to be recognized, and asked for pictures and autographs is foolish. And considering what they are paid, they should be thrilled and thankful to be gracious to their fans.

Hey, I saw Sam Elliot in a Denver airport recently (sounds like he's everywhere)
British band Oasis in Vegas this Spring...they were staying on the same floor and I didn't here a peep.
Bill Gates on an Elevator in San Jose last December...he was alone...I thought the world's richest man would have "people".

There are many "celebrities" names I don't regonize here either..but I guess they are TV people or current rock idols. As to whom I have met that I can recall: Burt Lancester was very nice and friendly and actually wanted to talk to me longer than I had time for..I had to dash away finally. Dustin Hoffman was full of questions about everything. I love his acting but I can see whay he gets on people's nerves. Harry Dean Stanton knew less about the films he was in than I did..some of them he couldn't even recall the titles of. Lucille Ball was egotistical....when I didn't seem to act to her the way she thought I should act she even asked "Don't you know who I am" and I just said yes I do and that was that. Jaimie Lee Curtis was another who wanted everyone to notice her and fawn over her...I hate that type. Gene Wilder was shy and nice.

I have met many celebrities over the years but three of them really stand out. In 1966 my family was on vacation in San Francisco when we spotted Joe Dimaggio coming out of his restaurant and heading toward a limo. I was 11 years old and a big baseball fan so ran up to him and asked for his autograph. After recieving it I asked if I could have my picture taken with him. He said OK and then my father realized that he had left the camera in the car a couple of blocks away. Joe said no problem he would wait. So he stood there and waited outside his limo along with the group of men he was with while my father went back and got the camera. Another memorable one was meeting Bob Hope after a round of golf. I asked for a picture with him and the man who was with Bob offered to take the picture. Mr Hope was very gracious and made sure we were facing the right way into the sun so that the picture would come out. The third memorable experience was last week. I sat next to Burt Bacharach on a flight to L.A. He was extremely nice to everyone, no big-shot or leave-me-alone-I'm-famous attitude. He wrote a personal note to my wife after I told him what a big fan she was of his. He made sure to say good bye to everyone that he had talked to on the plane as he left.

My family and I were fortunate enough to see Steven Tyler (and the rest of Aerosmith) at the Beach Club at Disney World two years ago. The band was there to take part in the Neil Armstrong shuttle launch. They were all hanging around the pool (they didn't look like your typical Disney guest!) and Steven Tyler was very gracious. We had 3 giggling girls that were just dying to meet him and when they went up to ask if he would let them take a picture with him he grabbed my youngest and put her on his lap and smiled away. Just goes to prove, you can't judge a book by it's cover.
