Have car in NO - restaurant suggestions from wider area?

We'll be visiting New Orleans in November. We're frequent visitors but this time we'll have a car and are wondering if anyone knows of worthwhile restaurants within a short drive (about 1/2 hour, maybe more) of the Fauborg Marigny. We love the local restaurants but would like to take advantage of places we couldn't normally get to. Our tastes are eclectic and we like to spend less than $125 or so for two. Also, how do you pronounce Fauborg Marigny? Thank you.

First, Faubourg Marigny is pronounced Foe-berg Mare-in-ee (accents all on first syllables) Faubourg means neighborhood.

As for restaurants...
try Chef John Folse's Lafitte's Landing (about an hour away) it may be one of the best meals you'll ever have. You can also make a day of it by driving down the river road, touring plantations, with views of the Mississippi River and oak trees - a very Louisiana Experience.

As for closer to the city suggestions, in the last year many great new restaurants have opened rightnear the city that you really shouldn't miss like Cuvee, 1170, Marisol's, Zoe Bistro just to mention a few.
But if you insist on driving...

20-30 minutes from the Marigny we'd suggest:
Tony Angelo's(Italian) in Lakeview
Fausto's (Itlaian) Metairie
Matt & Natty's (eccletic) Uptown
Le Parvenu (French) Kenner
Sid Mars (down & dirty seafood) Bucktown
-may be better for lunch.

Have a great time! Bon Appetit!

Thank you very much for all of the suggestions. We will be in the area for over a week and should be able to sample several of your picks, crowds permitting. Also thanks for the pronounciation lesson. It came up at a dinner party last night and no one's guess came close.

When we stayed at Nottoway Plantation, we dined at the restaurant on the grounds - excellent dinner.

Some of the hottest NO restaurant picks are witin a 10-15 minute ride from the Quarter or the Faubourg. Don't miss Jacque-Imo's and Dick & Jenny's, but expect a wait at both. Gautreau's and Brigsten's are also a must. For hip Spanish fare try Lola's on Esplanade (BYOB). Another BYOB place that's worth exploring is Nine Muses on Magazine. Head down Chartres below the Faubourg for breakfast or lunch at Elizabeth's. For Italian, head out to Metaire--La Riveria does it best.
