I know the rodeo is going on because we have tickets to it. As of the last football game of the season, the roof was not repaired yet. You might check the website www.hlsr.com to see if they list any details.

We drove by last week . . the sections that were damaged had been replaced, but it looked like they were still working on it. ( booms and workiers were still on the roof ) The local news are all saying it will be ready for the Rodeo

I was at one of the 85 degree games right after Ike and it was nice to be able and enjoy a game the way nature intended it. I picked up some sun and got to watch a great game (even though Houston lost, shucks). It's a beautiful stadium, with or without the roof.
I think Houston would have a home field advantage because of the weather if they kept the dome open now and then, especially if a northern team visited. But I understand one of the main reasons for the roof is the rodeo and that's why I asked about the roof.
Thanks everyone for the information. I hear great things about the rodeo and I hope I'll be able to make it there.

bk, we like to go on the weekend just because it usually runs quite late, and if you want to enjoy the carnival and everything else, sometimes it's hard to do on a weeknight. Most people buy their tickets based on the concert lineup they want to see. They have all the traditional "bad for you" foods at the carnival, a huge ferris wheel, lots of rides. I remember your saying you have a child - kids love the carnival and there's also usually a petting area and a place where they can see baby chicks, piglets, etc. Best advice I can give is park at one of the Park and Ride stops and ride the shuttle. Check out the website I posted for the performers and dates.

volcanogirl,
Thanks for the info.
Is Spring Break in Houston the week of March 16th to 20th? Will it be a madhouse that week and the weekends?
I hear the rodeo is the biggest event in Houston and can't wait to see it.

bk, yep, that's when Spring Break is for our school district. Honestly it's always packed. I don't think that would make that much difference one way or the other. I think weekends tend to be more crowded because people spend all day out at the carnival. They have a good shuttle service where they use either Metro buses or those more upscale buses, and they have dozens of them lined up when the rodeo is over. As soon as one takes off, another moves into its place. Just be sure to remember which Park and Ride lot you left your car in because the shuttles are arranged by name of the lot. I would guess the average show has about 70,000 people attending based on some numbers I've seen in the past. We're not really into country music, but we still have fun going. They usually do all the rodeo events first and then the concert follows it.

If anyone is in town for the rodeo this week, don't forget the Azalea Trail - really beautiful homes and gardens to see. www.riveroaksgardenclub.org should have all the info.
