Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any comments positive or negative about there stay at this hotel.
I inquired about the Sheraton Old Town Hotel and decided not to stay here because of some of the negative responses.
Thanks!

Diva,
I have personally never stayed there, but I live nearby and my brother stayed there when he visited. It's pretty basic, but clean and nice-- no frills. He had a "club" room, I think (on a floor for frequent guests). I did just stay at the Old Town Sheraton for my wedding night and found it to be noisy and dated.
Are you locked in to staying at a Sheraton?

Diva,
What area of town do you want to be and what "level of luxury" are you looking for? I'm sure the Sheraton would be adequate--- it's just nothing special. A lot of folks on Fodors stay at the La Posada. It's got lots of charm and is downtown. Depends on your needs and location though.

Hi Deb,
I have business to take care of for two days and will be flying back to Arizona (on vacation) but still conducting business -- what a bummer. So I basically just need a place to sleep.
However, I intend to do so exploring while I'm there doing the late afternoon and evening. Possibly looking into to driving to Santa Fe for the day.

Diva,
Either the Old Town Sheraton or the Uptown Sheraton will be convenient to the Freeway to get up to Santa Fe. The Old Town location will give you the convenience of being very close to Old Town and the museums, Bio park, etc. The Uptown location is right by 2 malls.... not too exciting for a tourist(however it is centrally located). What part of town is your business in?
If you just want a room to sleep in, I would stick with using your Starpoints. I'm sure they are both clean and safe. The Old Town hotel is in process of a major remodel and some new construction.
BTW, if you are a woman traveling alone, I would not walk alone after dark around the Old Town location. Just my opinion

We were there two years ago for a conference that just happened to coincide with the dates of the balloon fiesta.
Buses to the balloon launching site departed from the nearby mall. The mall's parking lot bus stop area was within walking distance but we drove as we left the hotel in the pre-dawn hours.
Eating breakfast in the club-level lounge other mornings, we could see in the distance the early morning launch of hundreds of balloons.
The hotel seemed to work fine for the business client--part of a chain, no surprises one way or the other. Clean, pleasant, free outdoor parking (if I remember correctly), easy to find from the airport, convenient location as a base for exploring other areas.

Diva,
Since you're staying in Uptown, check out The Flying Star. It's a local cafe just a few blocks up Menaul from the hotel (same side of the street, too). It's a great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner and they have fabulous desserts. Free internet access too. Let me know if you need more info.
