Has anyone been to Showfields in NYC?

I'm taking a spur-of-moment Memorial Day weekend trip with my college student daughter to the City, and looking for great things to do. We have tickets to "What the Constitution Means to Me" but other than that don't have real plans for anything. I've heard a pop-up store place called Showfields is very popular. Have you been there, and what did you think of it?

Also, neither of us has been to the Central Park Zoo, and we're staying in the Upper West Side not far from the park so we may pop over there -- if you're familiar with the zoo, what do you think of it?

On past trips we've been total tourists -- Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, lots of plays, bus tour hitting highlights, Eloise tea at the Plaza, Ellen's Stardust Diner, Staten Island Ferry, Dylan's Candy store, the typical places families visit with children when in the City. I'd love any "don't-miss" suggestions you may have for a trip with a 20-year-old daughter.

It depends on your interests, but you don't seem to have ever done anything more involved in history or science or anything. Maybe that doesn't interest either of you, but one thing you could do would be go to the Tenement Museum if you were interested in history. Then you could do a walking tour, the LOwer East Side History project has several tours in that area, but I guess it's too late for that as yoiu have to reserve. They don't do them every day.

If I understand, you are going this weekend or are already there so you can't really do anything that requires booking in advance that is popular like that, I guess. The Tenement Museum has some tickets available this weekend (at least Sunday) for various tours. I took the sweatshop and really liked it. They also do walking tours and have some tickets still.

That's just one idea. NY has so many great museums, I always go to 1-2 of those, I enjoy some of the smaller ones like the NY Historical Society. The Neue Gallery is fantastic. There are some museums down near the Tenement Museum area, also, not art museums, but things related to history or immigration (like Chinese or Italian Americans).

Thanks for your good suggestions! My list of things we’ve done before included just some of the things we’ve done; we took a Tenement Museum tour when the kids were younger and yes it was great!

On this weekend’s visit we decided to spend some time in Central Park since the weather was so great on Saturday, including going to the CP Zoo and eating in the Boathouse.

New York is always a fun place to visit. It’s especially nice when the weather is lovely!
