Has anybody moved from Boston to Seattle?
Hi, I am considering a move from Boston to Seattle (I love Boston but am ready for a change). Has anyone moved from Boston to Seattle? How is Seattle compared to Boston? I like what I've been reading about Seattle so far (and yes, I am aware of that rain!) and am planning a visit this summer, but would appreciate the insight from those of you who took the same path before me.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I moved to Seattle from Boston, with a stop on Colorado for a couple years before Seattle. Seattle is great. If you enjoy the outdoors, you'll appreciate the close proximity to mountains. I used to drive 2.5 hours to get to the White Mountains from Boston to go for a good hike. Now I don't have to drive more than hour. Same goes for mountain biking. And if you ski, you can leave those icy slopes behind you.

OH, and regarding unemployment. Life is what we make it. Are you defined by your job, or what you do outside of your job? I've been through unemployment in Seattle, Colorado and Boston! If you're motivated to get a job, and I mean a good job that uses your degree, than you'll fine one.

That's pure crap that you can find a good job if you just out your mind to it. So all of the poor souls who are unemployed are just not motivated? I find it hard to believe that everyone who is unemployed just hasn't bothered to look for work. I think it would be a little irresponsible to choose a place for hiking over employment.

Welcome to Seattle! Quick warning, say good-bye to Boston, and everywhere else. Once you fall in love with Seattle, you'll never leave. The rain isn't as bad as it sounds. We just say that to keep the wimps away. BTW, it's sunny and 73 right now.
The job situation isn't wonderful. There are jobs if you need them. It's just the difference between unemployed and underemployed.
My advice, when you come here for your vacation, don't spend all your time during touristy stuff. Honestly, Pike Place market is great, but I don't spend my Saturdays watching them throw fish! Try to get into the laidback and hip groove that makes Seattle wonderful. Grab a latte, take a drive, enjoy it here. It's wonderful
