Harrah's or Bally's Las Vegas?
My husband and I will be in LV Oct 10-12. The rates appear to be really high. The best deals right now are at Bally's or Harrah's. We are in our early 50's and my husband uses a wheelchair. Which would be best? We want something centrally located since we won't have a car. Any other suggestions?? I would like to book something now, just so we don't get shut out, but hope to see some "deals" for the Fall season.

try the Flamingo. Harrah's isn't the greatest.bally's is very smokey!
You smell liek a walking cigarette! Trust me..I used to live in Vegas! My favorites are Paris, bellagio.and venetian..But since the rates are so high..Id suggest the Flamingo Hilton..

If you want central location then Bally's is the place for you. I just got back from Vegas yesterday and Ballys is connected to The Paris, across the street from Bellagio, Caesars and access to intersection crossovers to all the hotels mentioned above. We used Bally's as shortcut everyday and never noticed the "smoke" as the other review stated. Get your tickets now for "O" at the Bellagio--a must-see! I also got a good feeling in Bally's casino. Friendly folks. Make certain you see the fountains at the Bellagio--outside and also off the lobby inside. Dollar drinks at Barbary Coast which is right across the street from Bally's. We thought things would be less expensive in the summer, but were wrong. It's expensive all the time, but fun to visit for 3-4 days.
Have fun!

Harrah's is livelier, but Bally's has much bigger rooms. Bally's also has one of the better buffets in town, and probably feels a half-notch more upscale. Harrah's has a great atmosphere, though, and those live music performances in Carnavale Court are among the great joys of walking the Las Vegas strip.

i might suggest going to biddingfortravel.com and positing a message asking about rates people have gotten for priceline.com for those dates. the reason i suggest this is that just about any strip hotel is going to be better than harrahs, and as a property bally's is really sort of ho hum.

if you're looking for something mid-strip, and don't want to pay alot of dough, here's what cheapovegas.com says about best value:
Barbary Coast (Strip)
Outstanding for the price. The rooms are big, with canopied beds, Victorian furniture and great views of the Center Strip. TVs are nice big 25 or 27 inchers. This is a small hotel, and the casino is a bit smoky, but the rooms are surprisingly nice. The bathrooms are a bit small, but not uncomfortably so, and they have a weird shape. All the single king bed rooms face Flamingo Road, Bally's and Bellagio. The double queen bed rooms face the Flamingo. They are quieter (although you get to hear the air conditioning system from the Flamingo), but the view ain't as hot. The tubs have a window you can open onto the world. We use them to yell to passers-by below that we are naked and wet.

I stayed at Bally's a month ago and the room was smoke free. We didn't spend much time in the casino, but I'm pretty sensitive to it and didn't notice which leads me to believe it's not THAT bad.
The Bally's rooms and bathrooms are huge. So dealing with a wheelchair it might be your better bet. I believe there was an easy way to get to the elevators via ramps, but I can't recall completely. Can't comment on Harrah's though, sorry!

I've stayed at Harrahs during my last four trips to Las Vegas. The rooms are very clean and the hotel is quiet. The Fresh Market Sqaure Buffet is great as is the Garden Room Cafe. For good Italian cuisine I would recommend the Cafe Andreotti. Try to get a room in the Carnaval Tower as these rooms are newer than the ones in the Mardi Gras Tower.
