Hanford, California

Will be in Hanford for business but will have some free time. Weekends for sure. Tentatively scheduled for last week of September. I love hiking, swimming, biking, the arts, dancing and fine dining. Also qigong/taichi if any local schools in the area. What are my best bets in or near Hanford?

When we lived in Visalia we went through Hanford en route to other places; I don't remember that there was a whole lot going on there. I hope times have changed and that someone local will see this message and respond.

Be prepared to drive many, many miles. Hanford is in the middle of nowhere. You could take short trips to Corcoan or Coalinga and tour the various State prisons.

I'm serious.

If you have a free weekend you might want to head over to Yosemite or over to the coast. Relatively speaking neither is that far from Hanford. I haven't been to Hanford in years, but as far as I know there is nothing of interest there. JMHO

Man! Who did you tick off to pull Hanford duty?

the obvious is Kings Canyon/Sequoia Natl Parks.

The park that "KAL" mentioned is well worth the trip.
Also going west to Paso Robles and over to Morro Bay is doable..
Good luck

Thanks for all the replies. I thought Sequoia/Kings Canyon would be my best bet. I've always wanted to travel there so I guess this is my opportunity. State prisons?? I think I'd like to avoid those!

I lived in Lemoore for six years(mom taught at NAS).. yup, our getaways to the coast were essential(humid as heck).. we also traveled to the mountains in the summer.
Does anyone know if the ice cream place is still across the street from the Hanford library(think it was Superior dairy), my favorite school field trip!!..
much more exciting than the raisin expedition,lol...

Otherwise known as cowtown.

Infortunately, even the cows want out of Hanford. Check this out:

This is not encouraging!! Looks like I better take along lots of reading material for my week nights in cowtown. Maybe Superior Dairy is still there. A milkshake could be the epitome of fine dining. Sequoia here I come.

Don't rule out the state prisons - San Quentin has a gift shop, maybe the ones near Hanford do too We actually have a set of glasses from the Q giftshop.
