Hanauma Bay, Oahu

A few questions regarding Hanauma Bay. . .we are planning to go on a Saturday in late September. Is that an okay day to go, or is a week day better (as far as crowds)? Also, I read somewhere that the first orientation movie doesn't start until 8:00 a.m. If we arrive at 6:00 a.m., will they make us wait to see the movie before letting us snorkel? Are there actual gates on the parking lot that they open at 6:00 a.m., so we wouldn't be able to park any earlier? Thanks for any info.

I've only been once myself ~ 8:30-ish, but I've seen posts here of people who have gone snorkeling early like you're talking about, who said they did not have to see the movie.

Saturday is fine. Go early as the parking lot will fill up by 9-9:30.

It opens at 6:00 so you will be able to park then.

The parking attendant usually doesn't start until shortly before 7am.

The entrance to the park and the film doesn't really open until 7am. But, you can get in earlier.

You can get in before 6:45 or before & not have to pay parking or the $5 entrance fee or view the film.

Wish would have known about the early entry as hanauma bay is awesome and went 3 days in a row, we were there before 8 and not very crowded, by 10 lot was full and line of people waiting, but will be back to the wonderful island of Oahu and for free will be there everyday, but Tuesday. Saw lots of colorful fish, sea turtles, and a couple of eels. Read Dusty's other posts if need info, there is a lot of info available from him. Have a great vacation!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thank you for the replies! We haven't been to Oahu in 14 years, so we are really looking forward to it. My husband loved Hanauma Bay last time, and it's the only thing on his to-do list for this trip.
