Hana Sky Trek? Helicopter + van ride from Hana
Going to Maui in November; I've been once before but it was years ago. My husband has never been to Hawaii so I'm trying to plan some special events. I've done the helicopter ride and loved it; thinking of booking the Hana Sky trek, a 45 minute helicopter ride to Hana, then a 3 hour van ride back. Has anyone done this? Seems like we'd see more if we didn't have to drive, but it could also be a letdown.

Ann, cost for the trip was around $199 per person -- that includes lunch and a stop for swimming on the way back from Hana. Not bad when you consider most helicopter flights alone are at least $150.
Hope to hear some opinions from people who have done this!

My husband and I did this a couple of years ago, and we're both very happy that we did! This way we both got to enjoy the scenery without one of us having to worry about driving. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to stop and explore some of the various areas like the bamboo forest. If you don't mind that, I definately recommend it. Email me if you have more questions!

We're going for 10 days in July and I found (what I think) is a really good web site www.mauiactive.com. Regarding the road to Hana, the drive is painful, but so special that it's worth taking at your own pace. DO NOT miss the black sand beach.

We took the Blue Hawaii trip like this - helicopter to Hana and rode in van back. It was great! We stopped at a tropical flower farm and saw some beautiful flowers! Ours included picnic lunch in Hana. It was very tasty! I would highly recommend it!

My wife and I did the Sky Trek trip to Hana in July on our honeymoon and had a great time. The helicopter was through an outfit called Air Maui and the guide was excellent. The van was very comfortable and allowed us to enjoy the view. The van guide was fantastic. He was a large man who owns a taro farm on the coast. He stopped off at many interesting spots including a spot where you can swim in a waterfall. Decent picnic lunch included. Foggy day partially obscured our view of Haleakala but I'd recommend you drive up there by yourself to catch the sunrise in any event. Definitely a recommended trip but pricey.
