Hamptons passe?

How cool ARE you? For some people (most) the hamptons are always happening, though some hamptons are more happenin' than others. Lots of celebrities and fringers have deserted for other climes, but new ones have moved in. This has always been the case. For other people, the hamptons "scene" was never that appealing and they prefer the north fork exactly because it isn't "happenin'" - rather because it is more laid back, though summer traffic there is just as bad. The ultra cool can go either way. Are you considering a summer rental or second home purchase? Because the prices are as high as ever. Some people say the hamptons aren't happening anymore, but I think it's just sour grapes in most instances.

To be very honest with you, I am glad that the summer season is over next weekend. As a native New Yorker, I am sick and tired of hearing nothing but Hamptons, Hamptons, Hamptons from Memorial Day until Labor Day. It is all the magazines and newspaper report on. It is not the end all be all vacation / weekend place. It has gotten too costly and the ride back and forth every week is boring. Upstate is lovely and closer, as well as the Poconos and Connecticut.
