Hamptons passe?

I've heard that the Hamptons aren't happening anymore. Everyone's going to the other side, the North Fork. True?

How cool ARE you? For some people (most) the hamptons are always happening, though some hamptons are more happenin' than others. Lots of celebrities and fringers have deserted for other climes, but new ones have moved in. This has always been the case. For other people, the hamptons "scene" was never that appealing and they prefer the north fork exactly because it isn't "happenin'" - rather because it is more laid back, though summer traffic there is just as bad. The ultra cool can go either way. Are you considering a summer rental or second home purchase? Because the prices are as high as ever. Some people say the hamptons aren't happening anymore, but I think it's just sour grapes in most instances.

As long as the ocean is wet and the sun shines, the Hamptons, particularly east of Shinnecock Canal, will be "happening." Let's face it, the Long Island Sound doesn't compare to the Atlantic Ocean.

To be very honest with you, I am glad that the summer season is over next weekend. As a native New Yorker, I am sick and tired of hearing nothing but Hamptons, Hamptons, Hamptons from Memorial Day until Labor Day. It is all the magazines and newspaper report on. It is not the end all be all vacation / weekend place. It has gotten too costly and the ride back and forth every week is boring. Upstate is lovely and closer, as well as the Poconos and Connecticut.

Just put northfork.com into your search engine and you can check it out.
I would be surprised if there are any vacancies anywhere. Anyplace near decent is booked in early summer.

ps> look up Sag Harbor and Shelter Island.Sag Harbor is quaint, and still has a small town flavor to it, and Shelter Island is SO much more cool and interesting than the Hamptons.
