We stayed at the 1770 house early May of this year on a girl road trip and all I can say is that we had an amazing time! The rooms are nice, the food is great, the grounds are perfect, no there is not a lavish landscaping there but the patio/terrace where you can have breakfast is perfect! And it is right in the middle of everything! We are already planning next year's girl road trip and it will surely include 1770 house!!!

Report part II
Saw the Fithian room at Baker House. Tyler room was still occupied so they wouldn't let me in. Hmmm this is a decision I'm glad I don't have to make. Baker House - the place- is really really beautiful but the room I saw is not as nice as the one at 1770. The room at 1770 looked as though it had been redone within the year. The Fithian at Baker House is not very impressive for that price. It was clean and pleasant, but nothing special. There are a few steps up to the bathroom from the bedroom. If you were staying here as the guest of a friend you'd feel lucky. At over $600/night, I'm not sure. The room is small but not claustrophic. It's one flight up from the main floor (as is the Tyler) which is down the same hall but faces the other way. The woman who showed me the room at Baker House did say the Tyler room is a bit larger and has real king bed while the Fithian is really 2 singles made as a king.

So the decision is between a beautiful room in a nice place or a nice room in a more beautiful place. Baker House is much larger than 1770 with a number of different public rooms inside including a sitting room with an honor bar. I saw lots of people leaving Baker House (checking out) while at 1770 I saw no one. I asked one woman if she had enjoyed herself. She said, "very much."

Baker House feels more like a place you'd want to "hang." Pool is very pretty (but not large) and garden is lovely. 1770 House is more a place to sleep and stay and spend time elsewhere (imo). I hope this helps.

First of all- thank you. You are a gem-you really are. It was so nice of you to look at these places for me! What you wrote is pretty much what I thought might be the case. It's nice to know that the Baker House grounds are as beautiful as they look on the website.

I'm going to have to make my DH decide. The 1770 is def less expensive, but i love the amenities and the spa at Baker...Maybe we'll split it up if we can! I'll let you know what we decide!

Again, THANK YOU!

Have you tried the Palm?

1770 House would be my first choice aside from there. Good luck!

We stayed at the Panoramic.Still great
even though there is some construction going on,they are converting it to private conops..Rooms are far away and they all overlook the Ocean. The suites are $300 per night. The Panoramic is about ten minutes east of East Hampton. It has always been my favorite place to saty out there.
