Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good half a day or whole day trip from Vegas. We (three mid twenties lads) are going to be in Vegas for a week over New Year. We have all visited Grand Canyon already.

Check out Valley of Fire State Park, next to Lake Mead, about an hour outside of Vegas (http://www.sunsetcities.com/valleyoffire.html). Spectacular in the rising or setting sun, great rock formations, ancient petroglyphs. You can also visit Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.

Thanks ALF. I have seen Valley of Fire recommended elsewhere. Does anyone know whether this is better than Red Rock Canyon???

A trip to the Mustang Ranch would be fun for all and could be done easily in a half day.

I'd recommend the Hoover Dam as a half day trip, quick to get to from Vegas.

I have not been to Valley of Fire but we have often been to Red Rock Canyon. Valley of Fire was described to us as being something like a "smaller Grand Canyon". I would like to see it.
Red Rock is good if you want to hike or climb, they have rock face climbing.
The weather might not be warm enough for that. It is also about 1/2 hour from the Strip, I think VoF is farther.

Thanks all for the advice. I think I'll do Red Rock as it seems closer to Vegas.
I was also thinking about going to visit a ghost town. Are any worth a visit from Vegas??
