Here's a map for you. It's about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Lahaina.

Tip: forget the 3 a.m. mob going up for sunrise and doging bikes going down--go an hour before sunset to see crater from observatory viewing area, then park facing west there or at pulloffs before the visitor center (or even there). If there are clouds, the sun setting above them is poetry inspiring; if no clouds, WOW!

Haleakala is not on the road to Hana. From Lahaina it's back toward the airport, I think it was 1-1/2 or 2 hours drive.

Thank you for the correction Rusty. I'll have to check my map before posting next time! Because we did not continue on to Hana, I did not realize.
rbrad, I'm really not being a fussy school teacher, it's just the hawaiian words are tricky and if you're doing internet research easier if you're got all the letters where they belong
