1. What is the best beach on the Gulf Coast within a 1-3 hour drive from Orlando?

2. Where would you recommend two (30-40 YO) women stay for 2 nights (Thursday-Saturday), where the beach is easily accessible for daytime play and there are clubs or bars accessible for night time play?

We are extending a business trip by a couple of days, and want to make the most of that time. We're thinking about Siesta Key, but are looking for other options and good suggestions from people like you who know better than we do!

Whatever beach you decide to visit, check to make sure all hurricane cleanup (Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne) has been complete or at least isn't impacting local beaches too much.

Thanks Dan. I do realize that there are many areas that are still working to clean up after the disastrous storms, and my heart and prayers go out to those who have suffered. From what I can see, Siesta Key seems to be fully operational, and I guess another part of my question should have been "what areas are able or are going to be able to accomodate tourists within the next two weeks".

I have to agree that Siesta Key in Sarasota is a great choice - plus no impact from the hurricanes in Sarasota - Siesta Village is fun - walk to restaurants, low key bars, or high energy dance places

Clearwater or St. Pete is closer than Sarasota--last time I was there, Clearwater had lots of nightlife.

It will take you three hours to Siesta Key if there's no traffic, so you might want to stick with Clearwater Beach, which is more like two hours.
