Yep, it's across the street from Alewife station, where Rt 2 meets Rt 16.

Anyone needing an hotel should look in Waltham--way cheaper than Cambridge, but no public transport really..

Bob you can charter a bus to haul us around. 70% sure I will fly in from Illinois for this GTG.

Wow, my initial thought was a low key dinner and drinks with the locals. This is definitely expanding. (Not that I don't want to see you, Carol!)

I'm staying at the Kendall, in Cambridge, right next to a T station (pre-paid over 60s rate). If I had realized how expensive the hotels were in Boston, I might have decided to fly out of DC... Eight nights in London are costing me less than four nights in Cambridge.

I would love to be there - will have to wait until closer to time to see if we can work this in with DH's schedule, though. I really hope we can make it!

This is a possibility for me and for DH. We've attended two Boston area GTG's instigated by rhkkmk, and if they are coming and if Carol is coming, we would try to get there.

I'm fairly certain other Boston area Fodoroties are as much fun as those guys, and if so, it will be great.

Just have to check out the schedule and will be back to you. Bob Kimball, GET THAT BUS!!

And Florida1 - please try!!

Setting Expectations

Maybe I should have put Mini in the title. This was intended to be just dinner and drinks with a few people who lived in the area, for maybe three hours or so. We were thinking 6-8, maybe 10-12 tops. All we are planning to do is reserve tables at Summer Shack.

If people want to fly/bus in from elsewhere, and/or arrange other meet ups, that's fine, but all Don and I are "organizing" are the reservations at Summer Shack.

I posted the following on the Asia board as well:

Not to worry there, thursdaysd. We've all done this before. Summer Shack will work with a small group or slightly larger. Don't panic. Boston is one of the most popular Fodors GTG destinations but we did not have one last year, in spite of a fairly long tradition. So kudos to you for inspiring an event. Anything beyond the dinner will be the responsibility of others and not your concern. Don has been involved before and has even arranged his own local meet up during an event, so perhaps he can give you some perspective. We will all step up to make it a great weekend. Just go with the flow - you will meet some of the friendliest and most well-travelled folks on the planet...

I just booked a hotel for July 11 and 12. DH and I have been going to the Boston GTG's since the beginning.

But now, after reading thursdaysd's last post, maybe I am not welcome? Didn't realize it was a GTG for a select few.

No, laurie, that's not what I meant. Just that I don't have the bandwidth to plan anything other than dinner, and I wasn't expecting people to fly in!

thursdaysd -Good for you for getting the ball rolling. It will probably continue to roll on its own, so don't stress about it being "only dinner". DH and I are planning to attend, and are looking forward to seeing old friends, and meeting new ones.
