Group dinner in Theatre district - help!

A group (around 20 of us) of Philly folk are heading to NYC in 2 weeks for a Saturday matinee. We're looking for a mid-priced place to make dinner plans in that area. Any suggestions??
Thanks!

For your age group, I would recommend Carmines.

You can be loud, have fun, and eat because they serve huge portions family style.

Also, Carmines will not break the bank. With non-alcoholic drink and tip, you can get out for about $30 each.

What am I missing? How did you know how old they are?

And I was also going to suggest Carmines. Just don't expect gourmet. Think standard Italian fare and a good time with friends.

Wow, we Fodorites must think alike. Carmine's was going to be my suggestion, too.

I agree that Carmine's would be a good suggestion, not alot of restaurants in that area are large enough to accomodate such a large group at one time.

I was also going to suggest "America" which not in the theatre district is a short subway ride away. America is on 18th St between 5th and Broadway. You can take take the N train to 42nd St from 14th St just a couple of blocks away from the restaurant.

Have a GREAT time while you are here.

Wow, a unanimous suggestion!
To clarify, the group of 20 is in their mid to late twenties.

We have some foodies and some decidedly NON-foodies in the group - but Italian should suit everyone. Thank you!!

I organized a group dinner at Trattoria Dopo Teatro on 44th. The food and service were good and it was not terribly expensive.

Wherever you're going, you better make reservations NOW or you won't get anything for a Saturday night in the theater district.

I just want to add that we do all our family dinners for holidays when no one can cook with take out from Carmine's. Their Spedini is great, and we love the Eggplant Parm, as well as the chicken with garlic, wine and lemon. It isn't fine dining, but it really can be delicious.

Sounds like you're resolved on Carmines but another option would be Ruby Foos for Asian (Chinese, Japanese and a bit of Thai) Big place, fun atmosphere too.

Bear in mind that Carmine's serves their dishes family style, so the portions are huge and everyone generally shares.
