There are stores near the airport, but your best bet may be to drop everyone off at the condo and head down the road to Kihei where you'll find Foodland, Safeway and Times. That way you can check out the kitchen and see what pantry items you won't need And be sure to take the two minutes to get a discount card. Also pay attention to the pricing on produce as some items you wouldn't expect are charged by the pound. Also google to find out about farmers markets and schedules.

I think you have to go to Kihei to the Safeway or Times Supermarkets. There is nothing in Makena or Wailea for groceries. However there is a Costco and a big Walmart right close to the airport in Kahalui. You can't miss the Costco as you depart the airport.

For the last two trips to Maui we have stopped at the Green Dragon Farmer's market for produce in Kahului on our way from the airport to our lodgings in Makena/Wailea. You will not find a better selection of locally grown produce on the island. The hours can be spotty and change often, so check before you go.

I enjoy Foodland. Good selection of prepared foods if you don't feel like cooking. We love poki and they have a many different kinds.
Our condo has a Foodland discount card on the key ring. The cashiers have the cards too, listed by all the major condos.
The Safeway is huge and has everything you could think of. I buy my booze there.
Check the condo pantry before you go to the store. The cleaning staff at our place clears out items left by previous guests to avoid contamination.

There is a Safeway in Kihei and another in Lahaina. I've been to Foodland in Kihei as well. Walmart and Costco are both in Kahului and you will pass Walmart as you leave the airport in Kahului.

Also, dont forget to sign up for the store loyalty card (you can do it on the spot). You will save alot doing that.
You are not too far from Costco if you need to go back later. That will be your best bet for the basics (for the price).

Please note that Foodland is the only locally-owned supermarket chain in Hawaii. Safeway and Times are owned by mainland companies. (Please support our local businesses. Mahalo.)
