Steve's supermarket is called Food Emporium and is my favorite chain of Manhattan supermarkets, although it can be more expensive especially in that neighborhood. There's another chain called Gristede's with a branch at 62nd St & 2nd Ave.

If you're interested in bakeries there's a fabulous one called Le Pain Quotidien at Lexington Ave between 63rd & 64th and a more regular, but still good, one - Hot & Crusty - at 63rd St. and Second Ave.

The Bridge Street Market is a large (by NYC standards) grocery store located under the 59th Street Bridge (enter from 60th Street across from the Starbucks). It's operated by Food Emporium. Enjoy!
