Grnad Canyon through Las Vegas

We'd like to see the GC and we're coming into Vegas (we have free airfare from JetBlue). This is what we thought of doing. Can anyone comment on the itinerary?
-arrive Wed. night late into Vegas. Staying in Vegas. We'd like to rent a car at the airport since the rental car office at the hotel will be closed by the time we arrive.
-breakfast in Vegas
-leave by 9 a.m. for the Grand Canyon
-would like to spend 2 nts (Thirsday, Friday) at a lodge there. Does anyone have any suggestions for accommodations in the south rim.
-leave the GC on Saturday for Vegas
-leave Vegas Sunday.

Thanks much for any comments!

I did the same trip with my daughter last summer. Get whatever is available at the South Rim. Bright Angel and El Tavoris (sp) are the best but fill up quickly. Too bad you can arrive early in Vegas, go directly to the Canyon for two nights then stay two nights in Vegas. Have fun.

Do you HAVE to fly into Vegas? I think Flagstaff, AZ is closer to the South Rim. It doesn't sound like you're spending any time at all in LV and it might make more sense for you. Just a thought.

I agree with Sam. Flagstaff is much closer. Then hang in Vegas for a couple nights!! If it's free, change it???

Yea, JetBlue only goes to Vegas (and it's a freebie we have to use or lose). Breakfast at the Bellagio is worth the trip!

We're doing the same trip in March--staying overnight at Vegas before going on to the GC. You made me curious about breakfast at Bellagio. What makes it so good? I hate to miss a good thing.

The breakfast buffet at the Bellagio. For $12.95 you get this incredible selection of just about any breakfast food you can think of. All sorts of egg dishes, made to order omelettes, blintzes, tarts, sausage gravy and bisquits, lox, cooked fish dishes like pacific salmon, mahi mahi, japanese breakfast dishes and desserts. I haven't seen too many breakfast buffets for that price that have the quantity AND quality of food. My husband, who never raves about food, insisted on eating there three days in a row. It kept us going through the afternoons; we really didn't need lunch. PLus, the place is CLEAN.

Just don't go on weekends; the price goes up to 21.00 because it becomes a brunch too, although I hadn't noticed that much more food. I don't think it would be as good a deal.

If you can, post your trip report and let us know how it went. We're probably going in October.
