Griswold Christmas

Thinking of renting an RV over the holidays for a short trip. Travelling with 2 adults, 4 kids. So far best quotes from USA RV rentals and Cruise America. Any experience with these? Any other recommendations? We'll need the 30 ft. - is it manageable, how does it drive, what about cleanliness...? Thanks for input.

It's been a number of years, but we used Cruise America for a road trip up in Washington State. Our experience was very positive, absolutely no problems with the mechanics or inside working order.

If you go with Cruise America, I have an Entertainment coupon for a $50 savings on a 3-6 day motorhome rental through Dec. 31 (more for longer periods but you said short trip). I'd be glad to mail it to you if you want.

Ellen...welcome to my world of RV!

We had a travel trailer for 9 years before we bought a motorhome. We decided to rented one for a week from Cruise America just to make sure it was what we really wanted. Our experience was EXCELLENT! We loved it...that's why we bought. We had our choice of a 29 or 25 ft for the same price, but decided to do the 25 ft because that was the size we were interested in buying.

On the other hand, my very good friend had a VERY BAD experience with Cruise America. They were suppose to fly to the east coast and were planning on spending a couple of weeks driving around in the RV visiting family and Civil War sites & then fly home. Cruise America called 3 days before they were to fly out and said they over booked and didn't have an RV for them. Didn't even say they were sorry because it's right there in the contract that they can do it! My friend was STUCK with 5 round trip tickets that weren't going to do her any good. She was able to talk the airline into giving her vouchers, but their vacation was ruined!

Since then they have had really good experiences with El Monte RV.

I hope you have driven a large vehicle in the past. Make sure you don't try to drive an RV the same way you would a car. They need to be respected, they are heavy. As far as the cleanliness goes, make sure you have some rubber gloves, waterproof.
If you are going to be in the mountains make sure you you put it in a lower gear before you start down. .. check out this site and it may help you have fun and stay out of trouble www.rv.net/forum

Hello my friend Utahtea! This isn't my thread, altho the thought of getting an RV someday HAS crossed my mind But at this stage in life, with kids in college for several more years, i think we'll have to stick to our road trips by car.

And BTW, to the OP (ccc01) it was actually my cousin and her hubby "cousin eddie" that brought their RV to our place one Christmas...

But i do hope you have as much fun as we did that Christmas! :-<
