Getting stuck in the pattern over LA at night is a pain schedule-wise, but a glory out the window.
The approach into Anchorage - breaking through the soup over the Chugach Mts. - is awesome.
I agree - NYC, especially after a transatlantic leg, is great.

The old airport (Kai Tak) in Hong Kong was absolutely spectacular. There are even websites dedicated to the experience. Approaching across the Pacific, the way most U.S. flights arrived the high rises sparkled and reflected in the waters of Hong Kong Bay like jewels, day or night.
The approach from mainland China and destinations from the other way was thrilling and hair-raising. The approach path led down through high-rise offices and apartments. You could look out of the airplane window into family rooms and offices. Just when you thought the airplane was in the final glide before touch-down the approach path required a 45 degree turn. I've never experienced low altitude maneuvers at such close proximity to neighboring buildings like that at any other airport.
