Great view from airplane window
 

I've flown out of La Guardia, JFK and Newark countless times and never got a clean look at Manhattan on a clear night. I did this weekend. What a view! I even got a clear look at Tribute to Light. The light extends up for what seems like a mile. <BR><BR>I've seen many other cities on the approach to landing, but no US cities compare with New York for sheer size and density. I did see the Grand Canyon flying to Phoenix and that made New York miniscule.<BR><BR>Any other great views out there? <BR>

The Swiss/Italian Alps are pretty amazing (especially during summer).<BR><BR>Helicopter ride along the northwest coast of Kauai is very hard to beat.<BR><BR>The Great Barrier Reef and ocean life viewed from a seaplane are quite beautiful.

Greenland on flights from Iceland to the States.

Many years ago coming into Seattle from the east there was a solid overcast that topped out at maybe 8,000 ft or so - crystal clear above it. The sun was setting ahead of us and the tops of the clouds were sculptured like the sea, but the setting sun made all the waves reddish gold. I was on the left side of the plane and could see Mts. Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, and Hood sticking up like golden islands in a golden sea. I've flown all over the world and that's the sight I remember as the best.

That's a very broad request !<BR>To keep it domestic, flying from Salt Lake City to Dallas is great on a clear day especially for anyone of a geological bent.<BR>Flying into Seattle is fun if the wind etc puts you right over or near Mt St Helens, interesting view, even today.<BR>Happy Landings !

Flying into Las Vegas at night is kind of wacky.All those hotels and all that neon.But it is hard to beat NY:)

Agree with above - flying over the Cascades and Mt. Ranier into Seattle was magnificent. We flew in mid-day and there were no clouds, fog, etc. - rare for the area.

Grand Canyon Baby!!! And so few people appreciate this wanted to get on the lould speaker and tell everyone to look out the window.

Flying over the mountains as the plane headed for Queenstown, New Zealand.<BR><BR>The pilot even invited passengets into the cockpit for a better view! Of course, that wa s before 9/11

On a sunny day, the flights over the Cascades are fantastic. The pilot will usually point out the different mountain/volcanoes--Mt. Rainier, Bachelor, Adams, St. Helens, etc. <BR>But my all time favorite flight in that area is catching a commuter plane from Portland to Eugene right about sunset on a beautiful late spring day. We flew lower than in a jet, obviously, and the views were unbelievable. <BR>FYI, if you're ever in the Portland/Vancouver area, you can take scenic biplane rides from Evergreen airfield on Mill Plain in Vancouver, WA. The pilots (all flight instructors and very competent) will fly you as low as they can legally through the Columbia Gorge area where you get a great view of the waterfalls and mountains. Not expensive and a fun thing for Pacific NW visitors to try (but not mentioned in ANY guidebooks!)

Can you see yet the ribbon of daffodils that has been planted in NYC and, I think, some of the boroughs? There was a segment on it on yesterday's Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood.

Didn't see that segment. <BR><BR>Is it supposed to be like "tie a yellow ribbon on the old oak tree" type thing for our loss at the World Trade Center?

Landing at Reagan National usually affords a spectacular view of Washington and its monuments; it's particularly striking on a clear night, when they are lit up. It never fails to stir a patriotic vibe in me.

Denver to Durango, Colorado on a clear day in February. I've made this trip at various times of the year, but winter is best. The plane flies diagonally over the Rockies.

Grand Canyon is awesome.

whale spotting on the way to Hawaii we never are sure we actually see them but oh what a way to make the time go by.

Best view I ever had was of the Himalayan mountains on a clear day while flying from Calcutta to London.

The view going down to Key West is beautiful!!!<BR>

Flying Alaska Air from Portland to San Diego they often fly right over Yosemite. Half Dome is quite majestic even from that height.
