Great tips on staying comfortable/fresh during and after long flights

I always feel dirty, greasy and stale after sitting in the aeroplane for 10 hours or more in those transatlantic and transpacific flights.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stay fresh and comfortable during and after the flight?

Pack some baby wipes and a change of undies and socks.

There are some great body wipes (really large, not smelly like many baby wipes). Toothbrush/paste (clean that sink!). If you are a woman, minimal or no makeup (apply close to landing, if you care about it). Loose clothing, change of underwear/shirt if it helps, wear sock booties instead of shoes, etc. etc.

I change my clothes as soon as I get onto the plane at the begining of a long haul into a sweatshirt and sweatpants. Not only are they comfortable but they keep me warm as I tend to freeze.

When I change back into my clothes before the end of the flight, I don't feel like I've been wearing the same thing for days at a time.

I carry a small bag with toothpaste and a toothbrush, olay facial cloths and moisturizer, chapstick, lotion, and deoderant. This way I can freshen up whenever I feel the need. And no makeup on the plane.

I also bring a change of clothes to wear on the plane - sweatsuit or similar - and then change back into regular clothes when the plane lands. And of course, this includes clean socks and undies.

evian brumatizer purse size, every time i use the bathroom i mist my face with water and cleanse it.

also, clinique moisture surge and no makeup.

i wear paper undies and trash them mid flight.

try washing your hair as close to flight time as possible and bring a barrette as the time marches on.

agree on deoderant/toothbrush in mini bag that i keep at my seat.

just keep cleansing and you will feel refreshed!

this has worked for me for long haul flights for the past few years.

This is a great thread.

Many years ago I was on flight from NY to London and the crew handed out steaming hot washclothes (with tongs) about about an hour before landing. Does that happen any more??

But I want to know from Anonymous and GoTravel how do you change clothes in those teeny-tiny airplane bathrooms?

I want to try that next time...

I can't imagine changing on the plane! I change at the airport.

On long flights--I wear no makeup and bring face lotion and eye cream to periodically slather on.

Plenty of water and healthy snacks.

Thick, comfortable socks so I can take off my shoes and relax.

Ear plugs and eye shields in case a nap is called for.

kerikeri paper underwear and how dirty do you get inflight? That is a lot of bathing.

Don't gross out but I just wear socks to the restroom and change so I don't have to mess with taking my shoes on and off. I don't take my bag just my sweats. I fiddle with putting everything away when I'm back in my seat.

Also, I don't wear anything difficult to change in and out of. Usually a long sleeved t shirt under a v necked sweater with black microfiber pants.

I'm trying to figure out how anyone changes in the aircraft bathroom w/o your clothes touching the sticky, wet floor. I've contemplated it, but I'm too afraid to take a chance of ANYTHING touching that icky floor.

GoTravel, what do you do with your socks after you're in there? Just toss them?

Yes, I do trash them. I always take a pair of old tube socks.

Honestly, the bathroom isn't nasty because I try to be the first person in there.

I guess I was thinking of when someone changes again just before the flight lands.

GoTravel, the bathroom floor is often "wet" a couple of hours into the flight. yikes; that would be worse than shoes on/off problem. I wear slides because I can't stand having shoes on for several hours in a cramped space.

Honestly, I cannot remember the bathroom floor being a problem when I change back into my clothes.

Hmmn. I'll have to ask Mr.GoTravel if I do anything different.

Maybe I have my flip flops with me?

GoTravel, maybe you're in first class. Or I've been unlucky with bathrooms!

I still don't know how anyone can possibly change in the tiny bathrooms.

Rule #1: Don't drink alcohol on the flight.

I have never changed clothes on a flight, never thought about it. I can't imagine trying to change in one of the bathrooms either, they are soooo gross. I guess changing in the restroom before boarding and than changing again after arriving before picking up ones luggage would be a good idea. But by the time the flight is over I really want a hot shower before putting on clean clothes. Always take a shower and change once I get to my accommodations.

Can someone recommend a nice smelling, disposal, big enough, wet-wipe/wash-cloth for an all-over-cleaning or wipedown in the airplane bathroom?

As to the changing clothes thing: I know when we were returning from Europe last fall there was a young woman (late teens/early 20s???) who changed in her seat. Not sure what she had on her bottom half, but she was wearing a strechy cami/bra on top, and just pulled off one top and quickly pulled on a more comfy one. Of course, she was like a size 2!
