Great Time In Las Vegas! Local trip report
As a Las Vegas local, I rarely visit the Strip, much less stay in any of the resorts or hotels. But my BF came in from Hawaii last week and we had a blast "playing tourist." I got a great rate at Paris - with my AAA membership the room was only $89.10. The only downside was they wouldn't upgrade (without us paying more $$) so we had a dynamic view of the parking lot! Oh well, at night the lights were still pretty and we looked out past the parking lot ....
I had only set foot in Paris once before - about 4 years ago - so I really enjoyed the hotel. The staff was really great. I had made up a basket of goodies and dropped it off at the Concierge the day before my BF arrived and they were only too happy to deliver it to our room once we checked in.
We did all the "touristy" things - took a ride on the new monorail over to the Hilton and wandered around over there for a while, stopping in the Star Trek bar for one of their promotional drinks - we got to keep the glass - and some video poker. After the monorail ride back to Bally's we were just in time to have happy hour at the Tequila Bar - I had a yummy mango margarita while my BF enjoyed his pina colada margarita. We sort of ruined his plans for a nice steakhouse dinner by drinking the margaritas AND eating so many of the chips & salsa! Oh well ...
Later that night we walked over to Bellagio - MY favorite hotel, but too expensive for my meager budget - and got rail-side seats on the patio at the Fontana Lounge and watched several of the fountains' "performances." It had been about 110 degress that day and by nearly midnight it was still about 100, but sitting on the patio it was nice.
We wound down our evening with a couple of Fatburgers and onion rings we took up to the room.
The next day was more "tourist stuff" and then, sadly, we had to check out and go back to "real life." All in all it was a lot of fun and I loved Paris. The breakfast in their "Le Cafe" was nice - a patio table and delicious omelet; but I splurged and had a chocolate croissant instead of toast - you can get toast anywhere, but fresh chocolate croissants are a treat! Everyone should take the time to be a "tourist" in their own town once in a while.

I thought I was the only one who did this!
It always amazes me that people come from all over the world to visit Las Vegas, but most of us who live here don't take the time to enjoy it like the tourists do.
After my last ski trip to Brianhead, I spent two nights at the Aladdin. I was really impressed with the room, and the hotel as a whole - especially for $79.00 per night.
I've also stayed at Luxor, Treasure Island, Hard Rock, and the Venetian, for other in town 'getaways'.
I make it a point to get to a show about once a month. I saw Zumanity about two weeks ago, for example.
I plan to try staying at Bellagio during December when the rates come down. In the meantime, I love to head down to Bellagio in the middle of the week for a glass of wine and a stroll in front of the fountains. It's a fun escape from reality for a couple of hours.

vegaslocal - from one to another! This summer I've had more than my share of visitors and while at the strip taking them around I've discovered a bunch of things/places/restaurants/bars I want to investigate and I have decided that it's time I venture out once in a while. We live in an exciting city and I think it's time I enjoy it a little more than I've been doing. Plus, it will give me more ideas of where to take folks that come to visit.

amelie,
The Paris pool is nothing special. Round hole with water in it surrounded by cement. Seems to me it is just above the lobby, maybe on the 3rd floor? From my room view it looked like no shade in sight except what may be provided by the building itself.

You're right - the pool at Paris was nothing better than you'd find at any apartment building or motel. It's on the third floor. Since we only had a day & a half the pool wasn't something we'd planned for anyway so I didn't mind. I'd had a great time in June when my sister visited and we got a room at the Tropicana just for the pool. Now THAT'S a pool! She and I and my 2 nieces spent two days in that pool and loved every minute.
