Hi, We have rented a cottage in Volcano called Hi'iaka House and have really enjoyed it. The home was built in the 30's as a retreat for a plantation manager. We found it charming and incredibly well stocked with breakfast treats, fresh fruit, coffee, etc. It was very clean, had a woodstove (great at 3000 ft), lots of character, a lanai, crochet set.... Not new but charming and a nice change from condos and hotels on the Kona/Kohala side. The owner was great to work with. Do a websearch on Hi'iaka House. It can be rented through the owner or through Hawaii's Best Bed and Breakfast.

Last October my wife and I stayed at The Inn At Volcano and loved it. It was small and intimate yet luxurious and extremely convenient to Volcano National Park. It was definitely the nicest place we stayed on the islands. Kinda pricey but that is to be expected. We paid for the least expensive room and got upgraded to the Continental Lace Suite for free.
