Considering renting a home in Grassy Key, Feb of 2010. It is right on the water. There would be 3 couples, age ranges from 54 to 66.

None of us are ardent fishermen, snorkelers, golfers, or boaters ('cause we don't live near the ocean), but we would be game to try some of all of it.

We would primarily be wanting to enjoy each others' company, watch sunsets, go for walks and for lunch and dinners. Probably not looking for nightlife. (pretty exciting group, eh?)

How does that location seem for a group like us. We would want to take some day trips, down to Key West, and other places to see in the Keys. One couple would be thawing out from the winter cold of Michigan.

What should we plan to see, to do, to "not miss", and to not bother with? Any info would be great, especially if you think there would be a better key or location to reserve.

My immediate recommendation is Mulate's restaurant -- an old standby for all kinds of customers, and authentic cajun/creole cuisine. There are lots of others that will be recommended, but this one is near the Convention Center and is reasonably priced. Good luck.

There is a Dolphin Habitat in Grassy Key. I absolutley loved it....
Anywhere you stay in the Keys will be relaxing, it's wonderful!!!!

Marathon has a good selection of restaurants.
Be sure and walk the pedestrian portion of the 7 mile bridge out to Pigeon Key. You cross flats where you will see rays, sharks, tarpon, and baracuda.
Take one of your outings to Islamorada. On the N side W of Islamorada is Robbies where a school of tarpon can be fed by hand.
If you have a mind to do the beach, Sombrero Key about 10 minutes from Grassy has one of the better beaches in the Keys.

Take an outing to Marathon to the turtle hospital. There is a small admission fee and it is a unique place to visit.
