There are several Grass Valleys....there is one in Oregon and one in California, and I would guess that there are several scattered around the country. Be more specific.

If you are going to the Grass Valley in California, visit Nevada City nearby and some of the other historic California gold mining towns, visit the Empire Mine, etc.

Empire Mine and the Cottage is a great place to see. There are also trails that go through the property. Downtown Grass Valley. Downtown Nevada City and the surrounding area for its Victorian homes. The old hotels in both cities have a lot of charm/ history. Although the one in Nevada City is being restored. There is also Malakoff Diggins State Park. How long of a stay? Do you want to hike?
Breakfast- Southpine Cafe- Grass Valley
Dinner - New Moon - Nevada City

Yes to all of the above suggestions

If you like small breweries, Grass Valley Brewing is a nice place to go. Good beer, friendly people.

Just west of Grass Valley is the South Yuba River State Park - you can go there to see the Bridgeport covered bridge: Home page - South Yuba River State Park: Bridgeport<meta name="keywords" content="Nevada County, Nevada City, Grass Valley, Covered Bridge, Scenic, Hiking, Yuba River, Swimming, Mountain Biking, Native Americans, Fishing, Bird Watching, Volunteer, Wi

I'd be happy to provide more information if you have specific questions.

After reading the fascinating reports I am really looking forward to visiting and seeing the places like The Empire Mine. Thank you every one for your help.
