We're staying in a condo for 2 wks in March and plan on having brunch at Grand Wailea. I've noticed on other posts that some people manage to take advantage of their pool and I'm wondering if that would be a very tacky thing to do - we'd love to do this too but I'm wondering if it would be perceived as 'dishonest'. We'd be glad to pay for the privilege however I'm sure that wouldn't be allowed either. In your opinion, what would be the best place to brunch after church on Sun. if condo is in Kihei? Thank you.

You can pay to use a room for the day...I believe it's half the price of the room if used overnight. Then you can have the wrist bands to access the pool all day and have a place to change afterwards.

You would have to pay for a room for a day. Last I heard, the cost was over $300 for this priviledge. Obvously, this is done to discourage non guests from using the pools. An idea, I might add, that I am in full support of.

Unfortunately, guests coming from other hotels have made the GW resort to using a wristband system to identify guest from non guests. No wristband...no pool.

We stayed at the GW for a week this summer and they pounce on you if you don't have a wrist band--there's no way can you get in without having one and the color changes daily.

I'm sure they have rooms for less than $300, esp. at that time of the year. It might end up being cheaper than taking the kids to a water park. The GW pool is more or less a mini-water park but still fun for the kids. You would actually get to use it two days because they allow you to still use the pool for the day after you check out.

Baddeck, we have found that the best brunch on the Wailea side of Maui is at the Maui Prince in Makena (not too far from Kihei. It is pricey (about $40 when we were there last) but includes champagne and a wonderful assortment of food.

baddeck, let's face it, it is dishonest to get in the pool at a resort if you're not staying there, and you know that's a requirement for using the pool. Now, there was a time, at the Renaissance Wailea a few years ago, that the concierge told us if we were staying in a condo nearby but came there to eat a meal, we'd be allowed to use the pool and hot tubs. (We never did - always stayed at the hotel.) I doubt we could do that now. And with the "fantasy pools" at some of the resorts now, they probably can't do that because they'd be inundated with people taking them up on it. I would pay/stay for a night at the Grand Wailea, and use the pools for the two days as someone suggested above. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Yeah, it'd be VERY tacky! Imagine how you and your kids would feel if you even made it into the pool and then got busted by security. Pretty embarassing, yeah?
You can buy passes (not cheap) to get a room/pool use but they limit how many of these are given out. Certain times they don't offer them at all.
Jayne mentioned that she was sure they had rooms for less than $300, especially at that time of the year but DON'T COUNT ON IT. March is spring break and a place like the Grand can easily get $300 per room.
I do agree with Sandi though. Maui Prince Hotel offers a really good Sunday brunch in the Prince Court restaurant.
