Grand Teton and Yellowstone
Hi All,
I need help planning this trip. I live in Los Angeles and would love to visit the Grand Teton and Yellowstone. I am thinking about May 25 to June 4. I know it's not enough time but that is all I have. Anyways, I need to figure out how to get us there. Any suggestions..... Where should we fly into and where should we stay? Also number of day we should stay in each NP. We plan on renting a car once we get there so driving isn't an issue.
Thanks again.

Fly into Jackson Hole.
Assuming that you have 10 days including your arrival and departure days, you really have 9 days at the parks.
25th arrive, get a car and stay at Jenny's lake or Signal mtn in Grand Teton
26th - Tetons
27th - 1st Yellow Stone. Split your stay betwwen 2 different areas in the park (Norris and Yellowstone Lake or Old Faithful and Mammoth or Canyon and Mammoth)
2nd - Drive back through the Tetons, taking time for a hike or 2. If you haven't yet done a raft trip down Snake river, its definitely worth it. Stay overnight in Jackson Hole.
3rd - Spend time in Jackson Hole. Stay overnight.
That gives you 2.5 days in the Grand Tetons, 6 days in Yellowstone and 1 to 1.5 days in Jackson Hole.
Have fun!!

The airport in Jackson is the most convenient for your limited time. But Bozeman, Billings, and even West Yellowstone are candidates.
Bozeman has the Museum of the Rockies, and is the main place of residence for one of America's foremost dinosaur paleontologists: John R. (Jack) Horner.
How much time? Hard to say. But you have plenty of time to do both parks justice.
My favorite places in Yellowstone are the geysers and the Canyon with its beautiful waterfalls.
The geysers fascinate me and these are my favorites: Castle, Grand, Great Fountain, Daisy, Riverside, Lone Star, and, of course, Old Faithful.
May 23 is the date of the full moon, but even as late as May 27 you should have a "big moon." One of the most glorious sights I can recall was the night I went out with my girlfriend (of more than 40 years) at midnight to wait for Riverside Geyser to erupt. Then about 2 AM, Grand erupted. The sky was clear and the moon was so bright that I really did not need a flashlight to see the board walk. (No trees much in the central geyser basin area.)
We were not the only sillies out there. Grand Geyser at 2 am under a full moon draws a considerable crowd. I just hope the timing is right for you. On the 25th, the moon rises about midnight and sets on the morning of the 26th. On the 27th it will rise again at about 12:45 in the morning, which means it will be very dark by then. Should be awesome.
Now, if the geyser will cooperate.
If Grand is not cooperating, perhaps Castle will be!
Unlike the tides, I know of no correlation between geyser eruptions and the timings of the moon.
In the Tetons, I think you need to give some thought about what you are going to do. Hikes? Float trips? White water on the Snake south of Jackson?
As a side trip, I highly recommend driving to the crest of the Beartooth Highway between Yellowstone and Red Lodge Montana. Then take the Chief Joseph Highway on to Cody and come back to Yellowstone by the East Gate IFFF it is open at that time. There is work and that section of the road last I heard.
