Grand Canyon Rafting Outfitter Recommendation Needed

My husband and I are interested in taking a commercial rafting trip on the Grand Canyon in the spring of 2007. The park service lists 16 outfitters who offer trips. Would greatly appreciate any help in narrowing down the choices. Price not too important (i.e. we don't need the cheapest trip) but value is something we care about. Would probably prefer the "cushier" end rather than the rugged end of the continuim but are not expecting a floating Four Seasons.

Mary thanks for any help.

My wife and I went through the Grand Canyon on a rubber raft on two occasions. Both outfitters were excellent.

1. Grand Cayon River Runners
2. Hatch

We can recommend both companies. The trip is a life-changing experience. You will be well cared for -- both companies emphasize safety, good food, and knowledgable guides.

Thank you. I have also heard of O.A.R.S. so will check out the three of them.

USNR (or anyone) Grand Canyon River Runners is not a company but an organization about river running. Did you mean Arizona River Runners? We have some information from them, but would really like to hear about them from someone who actually took their trip.

I, too, stongly recommend Hatch. We made the seven day trip in 2002 and were very impressed with the care and professionalism of the crew. And, meals were great -- we still marvel that they were able to provide great meals, even on the sixth night after leaving "civilzation". The guides selected great stops for the spectacular day hikes, and beautiful campsites each night.
A great experience.

I think (but you can check it on the Hatch River Expeditions website) the price for the seven day, six night trip was, in 2002, about $1600 per person. That, of course, includes the raft trip, the services of two guides, 21 meals, and accommodations (tent camping) at beautiful sites along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. It also included transportation after the trip, to Las Vegas, or back to Marble Canyon, the departure point of the trip.
