1st let me start by saying "DO" a search here for info...lots of good information and different opinions...you can stay on the rim(xanterra.com for lodging)..I like the Thunderbird..some like the cabins and lodge of the Bright Angel(also restaurant/steakhouse) and some like the lodge at El Tovar(&rest)..there is also Kachina on the rim proper and Maswik,Moqui, and Yavapai Lodges back form the rim about a 10 minute walk...also the Phantom Ranch for hikers and mule riders(reservations only)..and 2 campgrounds..also the village of Tusayan(about 8 miles outside of the park)...also grocery store and cafeteria and lounge(bars) at El tovar and Bight Angel.. hope this helps---

You may have been reluctant to post a long message, Pat, but I think it would help if you told us what you already know, what your preferences might be, your budget, etc., b/c there is SO much information we could all give you. The search engine here is temperamental, but give it a try for basic info about the GC, and then let us know what else you need. (BTW, please hurry, b/c accomodation inside the park will be hard to arrange this late in the game, since you're going in March...)

The North Rim is closed until April. Although March is not high tourist season, there are only a very few hotels inside the park, and they fill up very quickly, and up to a year in advance in high season. If you want to stay in the park (which would be my personal recommendation as you can see the canyon at all times of day and night), do a quick search here for the various recommended hotels (including the hotels rants and raves section) and then get on the phone right away to make a reservation (303/297-2757, same number for all hotels in the park). If you want to stay outside the park, search here as well for recommendations,
