Gotham Bar & Grill

Have dinner reservation at Gotham Bar & Grill for this Saturday. Our daughter lives in Manhattan and I thought this would be good restaurant to celebrate her birthday. She doesn't have much opportunity to dine at pricey places, but I also know that the price does not always dictate good dining. Has anyone eaten at Gotham lately. Appreciate any input.
Thanks in advance,
Elaine

Elaine: My wife and I have eaten there. It is one of the city's great restaurants. A bit pricey, but the service, ambiance, presentation and food are great.

ernie and Howard,

Thanks for the endorsement. Thought it to be good, but wanted to double check.
Appreciate both your replies.

PS -- Does my husband need sport jacket?

It's a great choice for your daughter's birthday (or any time). I even went out and bought their cookbook. Yes, I'd wear a jacket and tie although you will see all sorts of dress...and non-dress.

Have never eaten at the Gotham due to the fact I could never get a dinner reservation between the hours of 7PM and 9PM. Generally found that the best time slots were saved for regulars, friends, celebrities, etc.

I refuse to spend top dollar and be shunted to early or late night time slots. My vote goes to the Union Square Cafe and the Four Seasons.

I'm curious if you were able to get a prime time reservation.

Enjoy.

Frank,

Our reservation is for 8:30 pm and we have confirmation number. I just phoned and guess I got lucky!

Excellent choice. It is not terribly formal, but your husband might want to wear a jacket. The service is outstanding and I found no "attitude" on the part of the staff.

Elaine: how was it? (I have a great fear of recommending restaurants and hotels because they can change in an instant...)

Dan,

Gotham was simply perfect! Wonderful staff and the meal superb. Dinner for 4 adults cost less than anticipated. Although not inexpensive, have spent more elsewhere for less quality. The lobster was great, as was the salmon. First course terrific. A wonderful menu. Nice relaxed atmosphere...will definitely return, as it is 'geographically' desireable. Thanks to all who endorsed this restaurant!

Forgot to mention we stayed one night at Hotel Inter-Continental. I would not recommend this hotel. Certainly is not up to other Inter-Continentals we have stayed, although the location was good.
Saw 'Art' and really enjoyed the play.
