Gosby house or Spindrift???
HI! We are going on our honeymoon in September, staring in LA (We are from Florida) and driving to San Fransico. We are in a quandry about where to stay in the Monterey area. We narrowed it down to The Gosby house in Pacific grove or The Spindrift in Monterey. We like luxery, homey feel, fire places, romantic, up to date modern amenities, fluffy bed. Has anyone stayed at either of these places? What do you think? Thanks!

I also spent a few days at the Gosby House on my honeymoon. It is charming, and I love Pacific Grove over Monterey. I can recommned the Gosby House. Pacific Grove is small and quaint. Not familar with the Spindrift in Monterey. Is it a B & B as well.

I have stayed at the Spindrift and enjoyed it. There is a feather bed and a breakfast delivered to your room each am. The fireplace is very nice, get a room overlooking the ocean with a window seat.
Have you considered the Plaza? It's very luxurious. For $15 you can hang out on the rooftop spa. Use the jazuzzis, exercise bikes, et. It's a gorgeous area with outdoor fireplace and the views are amazing from the top. ***kim***

I've stayed at the Gosby House, It's a sweet place in downtown Pacific Grove. You might also check out the Grandview Inn and the Green Gables. Both are on the water in Pacific Grove. You can easily walk(and it's a lovely walk) into Monterey. I'm someone who prefers Pacifc Grove because it's smaller and rather quaint. I don't know what your budget is like but you might check out the Plaza. Kim's right..the spa is great.

I stayed at the Gosby House several years ago. I loved the location, but I thought that the wallpaper was too busy. It made our small room feel smaller. For a honeymoon, I think that you could find better places. I did really enjoy Pacific Grove though. I am sure there are other places that would fit your needs. Have fun!

Wow, you found an old thread! We stayed in Pacific Grove at Seven Gables and LOVED it. From it's location [closest to water] to the rooms, to the food [lots of it - free afternoon wine tasting with lots of great appetizers, to warm cookies and milk in the evening to scrumptous breakfast, it was excellent. http://www.pginns.com/

See what happens when you use the search function!
I think we'd like to overnight in Pacific Grove on our drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. (We'll also be stopping in Cambria.) Gosby House is in the chain of Four Sisters Inns that had been recommended by friends.
Thanks, Deb, for your suggestion of the Seven Gables. I'll look into it. Sounds great!

Thanks, bratsandbeer. Aside from the difficult parking, anything specific that detracted from your experience? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "the quality we were expecting." Photos, to me, present it as a comfortable place to stay, certainly not the height of luxury...
