Google Notebook - A Travelers' Delight!
I just happened upon this and wanted to share:
http://www.google.com/googlenotebook/overview.html
It is a way for you to keep all of your travel info in one place and to be able to access it from any computer. This new service allows you to clip inof from any website and compile it all onto 1 easy access web page. Great for planning a trip and it can be update while traveling. You can share page w/ friends and family and you can make it "public" which will act like a search tool. Check it out, pretty neat.
Hope this helps...

perhaps a good alternative for writing long, detailed trip reports. you can link to it from here. BUT...you can retain all copyrights to your material unlike if it were posted directly on this site.

I've already started mine for upcoming trip to Hawaii. Seems like a terrific idea since I don't carry a computer on vacation, but since I know that I can check in from anywhere, this will work for me. I usually email things to myself, but with this site, I can have family check it to see what I am up to!

Debi, I really like that you have started before you are even gone on your trip. I think I might give this a try. If you don't mind, if I run into trouble, I'll post some questions here. It looks pretty easy, though.
Did you run into any difficulties?

SpeedBuggy -- It has been easy to use and I have really only begun to play with it [i.e. adding pictures like the sample that's on there now, etc]
Amaclise -- it was my understanding that Google got in trouble for NOT releasing info to gov't to keep users privacy rights. I am not sure what you mean that Google uses these to determine what ads they send your way. I use a pop-up blocker which keeps most of those at bay. Do you mean, the sites they show you when you use Google as a search engine? If so, they can do that simply by the use of cookies to see where you've been and the searches you do.
I really like having all my notes/itinerary etc in one place that I can access from anywhere. I used to email these things to myself, but this seems so much better. And the fact that I can upload pictures for folks back home makes it even more fun.
As I've indicated, it has been easy and fun to move stuff there and as far as letting others in on my doings...you folks who've checked out my notebook are proof that that part works well!

As to the privacy issue, if you do anything online your privacy is pretty much non-existent. If anyone really needed to find out all about you, it's all there....somewhere. Google is the company that fought the privacy issue recently - but that makes it more obvious that they have all the information. Not that it is shared or given up to just anyone, but it's all there.
And if you use Google you can see that they mine for words that they link to ads.
In a way it is most amazing. Depends on how you look at it.
But for most of us, it is just a fact of life. That's how I look at it. Some mysterious (to me) server...somewhere....knows my interests. Hmmm

I've been doing much the same thing on my own, building quick and dirty web pages with that type of information. I keep copies on my home and work compueters for access even when I am not able to go online.

Cabovacation: can you elaborate? Are you saying even our *private* word documents are somehow accessible?
Debi: Thanks for the link!
