Good Veggie Restaurant

Me and my husband are going to make a trip to NY again soon. However, we're both Veggie's and would love to know if anyone knows of any particularly good Veggie restaurant, or even good places to eat with a good choice of veggie food. I'm sick of going to restaurants (especially good ones!) and then only having one choice on the menu. And by the way vegetarians don't eat fish, so please don't suggest seafood! (Sorry but some people think we do!!)
Thanks!!

My favorite Indian food restaurant in Manhattan is Haveli. Try the Aloo Gobi (it's a cauliflower dish). Indian cuisine has many veggie dishes, as you most likely know. Haveli is a great place. There are also some terrific Jamaican restaurants that do a lot of vegetables. Negril would certainly be worth looking into. I've been to the one on 23rd, it was terrific and reasonably priced. There are also some Jamaican places in Harlem.

Have a look at menupages.com. Almost all major NY restaurants are listed there with complete menus and you can search by area/cuisine.

Zen Palette, 2 locations:
34 East Union Square 212.614.9345
and
663 9th Ave (at 46th)
212.582.1669

Food is delicious, not inexpensive, lovely atmosphere, all singing, all dancing, all veg.

New York, well at least Manhattan, is a pretty veg friendly place. Following are a few of our favortites (I'm not veg, the woman I live with was, but now eats fish and the occasional insect when we're in SE Asia).

Here's a good link - http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.ne...ewYorkCity.htm

I second the recommendation for Zen Palate, really good food.

Bonobos, 18 E. 23rd Street. Raw Food.

Angelica's Kitchen, 300 E. 12th Street. Vegan - Organic, kind of macro, but not entirely. It's very good.

Caravan of Dreams, 408 E. 6th Street. Vegan - Organic, with beer and kosher under rabbinic supervision to boot!

Sanctuary - 25 First Avenue. International & Indian Vegetarian.

Some of the veg places in Chinatown are pretty good, but we usually go to the more carnivore friendly places. I can get the name of a good place if you're interested.

On 9th Ave at 54th there is a fun little place called Vynyl that has a nice selection of veggie items. It is a casual place with really good food. The menu has vegan dishes as well. I love the vegetable dumplings and anything that they do with portabellos.

If you do dairy, you might try a cicada pizza - available in NYC every 17 years.

Seriously, very tasty: we have them here each year and the dogs love them!
(always wise to watch what the animals and birds eat before trying)

For a quick lunch, there's an Isreali place in SoHo on Canal Street, at or near Greene. Very good felafel and other sandwiches.
