Good Value Skiing in The U.S.A?

Just started thinking about next years holiday. Would love to go skiing, last went 3 or 4 years ago. We are both dodgy intermediates. We have skied in France and Italy as we are from the U.K.

I would love to try skiing in America or Canada. I know we would need to take the airfares into consideration, but how does the skiing, snow, accomodation, food, lift-passes etc compare to those in Europe?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Have posted on the Canada forum.

I will give you my view of the skiing in the USA. I have also skied in Europe

1. Snow is more reliable than Europe
2. Trails/Pistes are better groomed
3. Lifts are usually state of the art in the bigger resorts
4. Food Better in Europe, but for a price you can find great food in the mountain resorts
5. Accomodations: Usually hotels or Condos. Europe family pensionnes are a better value. USA Condos are a better value (larger) than its equlvalent in Europe
6. Lift passes more expensive in USA
7. Canada a better overall value due to the Canadian Dollar value

I still would ski in Europe over the USA just something......."special" that cannot be put into words!!

Which ski resorts have you been to in Europe?

I'm always interested to know where people have been and what they thought. Its so hard to find a resort with a good snow record thats not too expensive. Our best find so far is Livigno in Italy. But I'd love to ski in America/Canada just to see what its like.

By the way are you American or British?

You can't beat Whistler/Blackcomb for value. Great runs, charming village, great food. Check the latest Conde-Nast ratings. Downside is the fog, but we have been lucky with our timing in the past.
