Good restaurants near Montebello, CA

We're going to the Breeders Cup in October and are staying in Montebello, CA. We're looking for good restaurants in the area.
Thank you.

First question: If you're going to be going to Santa Anita (in Arcadia), why are you staying in Montebello-- at least 12 miles away (as the crow flies)? Unless you're staying with family or friends, I urge you to look in Pasadena, which is a MUCH more desirable city than Montebello-- as well as quite a bit closer to Santa Anita. Old Town Pasadena has some great restaurants as well as nightclubs and what-not. I don't have specific recommendations, as I don't get up there much, but I know someone can make some good suggestions.

We're just now planning the trip and all the rooms in Arcadia and Pasadena are booked. Montebello was the closest place with a racetrack shuttle. Is it a BAD place? Thanks for your input.

It's not that it's BAD (i.e., lots of crime-- I don't think they have a crime problem there), it's just that it's so NOT GOOD (crushingly, mind-numbingly dull). There's NOTHING to do there, no restaurants of note, nothing.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be scrambling to rent a car and find a nice place in Pasadena (the Ritz-Carlton there is beautiful, and there are nice moderately-priced properties up there as well). Pasadena's a great town.

I tried the surrounding areas to Arcadia. Everything is booked! If you have any ideas of places to try, please let me know. Thanks.

I have to agree that Montebello would not be my first choice of places to stay either. There are so many places much nicer but......then again, if this is all you could get then I guess consider yourself lucky to have a place.

As for good restaurants, you are not far from one of the very best. The DAL RAE has been around for many many years. The food is outstanding (though a bit pricey). We have eaten there many times and we make the drive all the way from Orange County. They have both a main dining room and an outdoor dining room (if you're a smoker you'd want to chose the outdoor dining). The quality is really outstanding. Their website is:

I hope you have a wonderful time at the Breeder's Cup. We will be there as well.
