good pub near the Loop in Chicago

Hello,

I'm staying at the Hilton Palmer in the Loop section of Chicago on Wednesday night, and I have some time to kill. Could anyone recommend a pub with good food and beer that's laid back, not too touristy or overly trendy, in that general vicinity? Or recommend a general area I should walk to where I'd have some choices? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The Gage has outstanding food and service...plus an excellent beer menu. It is close to your hotel.

That area is touristy, but so it would be impossible to avoid tourists all together. But as a local, it's my favorite spot in that area and I've tried several.

Thanks Gina817, I appreciate it. One other thing I was looking for: the ability to watch an out-of-town baseball game. Any thoughts on that? Gage looks amazing--and I'll definitely checking it out--but I was also hoping to catch a certain game.

Gage has some tv's but isn't a full fledged sports bar (several tvs playing a wide variety of games). You can always call in advance to see if they be playing that game.

Other ideas in the area:
Elephant and Castle at 111 W Adams
Tilted Kilt at 17 E Monroe - bills itself as a sports bar
Miller's Pub at 134 S Wabash (older place, kind of dark, but they have tv's)

Maybe call these places to see if they be playing the game you are interested in. Have a fun time!

I also highly recommend The Gage. When we were in Chicago last fall we wound up going there twice. And we never go to the same restaurant twice on vacations. They have an awesome beer selection and the food was top notch. As for TVs, I am not sure.

There's the Bull & Bear on Wells St., near the Merchandise Mart. It would be a long walk or short train ride.
