We have tickets to see Chicago and would like recommendations for a Italian Restaurant to go to beforehand (we live on east 72nd), but it doesn't have to be nearby - near Broadway would be preferable, Thanks!

We were just in NYC two weeks ago and ate at Nocello, although there were any number of places that looked good around the theater district. For the record, here's what www.zagat.com says about Nocello, which is one reason we picked it:

"Small and charming", this Northern Italian is a Midtown "oasis" for "delightful" dining, complete with "smart" decor and "accommodating" service; what's more, the package is "reasonably priced" -- thus, its rep as a "sleeper" continues to grow.

It's at 257 W. 55th St., between Broadway & 8th. We walked in at about 6:15 and were seated right away.

Search this forum for other recommendations, and definitely check out Zagat's. You can sort by location, by price range, by rating, etc.

By the way, we paid about $70, including tip, for an excellent dinner of a glass of wine each, entree, and coffee.

Our favorite Italian restaurant in the theater district is Becco on Restaurant Row (West 46th between 8th & 9th Aves.). And, order the pasta special! It's three types of pasta (different ones every day) and you can have as much as you want. Reservations a must (at least two weeks before for weekend evenings)--212-397-7597.

I really enjoyed a wonderful meal at Casa Di Meglio, 235 W. 48th St.(bet. B'way & Eighth Ave.). We had a large group and they took care of us really well and got us out in plenty of time. And the location is right next door to a whole bunch of theatres. My fish was excellent and I tried some pasta that others ordered and that was delicious too. Nice desserts also.

I vote for Becco (above) and Osteria
al Doge. Both good values.

We had a great dinner at Carmine's last April-can't remember the street address but it's right in the center of the theater district. The restaurant is very popular and noisy but the food was great - tons of it and the kids still rave about their garlic bread. Only problem, we had several "doggy bags" that we took to the theater with us. The "Lion King" show was permeated by a faint garlic/ chicken parmigan aroma. Also, if your hotel has a little refreshment refrigerator - don't put your doggy bag in it or you will be charged when you take it out!

Tavern on the Green Restaurant located near central park. Very fun place,
decor is wonderful! Definitely a "must see"!

Not to be picky but these people live on E72nd-they are looking for Italian restaurants,and have received good suggestions.
Yes Tavern on the Green can be fun,but its not Italian or right in the theatre district and just accross the park from east 72nd Street.

Hey Fiona. I'm a native NYer and my pick is Pietrasanta, at Ninth Ave. and 47th St. Call 'em to reserve for the freshest Italian food in the Theater District!
