Good Food-Manhatten

Hi all-
will be in Manhatten next month. Looking for good inexpensive, non-pretentious food. Love BBQ, but I'd be surprised if I could find that.Harlem area is ok,too (I know Harlem is part of Manhatten)

Daisy May's is known as the best. I also like Hill Country; it's in the Flatiron District.

It's casual-- you visit different "stations" to order your food; they cut your portion on the spot (spareribs for instance) and wrap them in paper. You pay on your way out. I'm not sure how the prices stack up against Daisy May's though.

There's live music downstairs too.

I would never call Hill Country inexpensive! It's good, I agree, but Dinosaur BBQ is much more reasonable (and better, I think).

Thanks for setting me straight Lizzie! I had a feeling that it was on the pricey side for BBQ--it's been awhile.

We went there to watch football a few weekends ago, and a little mini styrofoam container of mac and cheese was like $10! The food was good, but VERY overpriced. I remember thinking it was in line almost with Blue Smoke.

Dinosaur BBQ is a fantastic place in Harlem....well worth the trek (which isn't so bad). It's very casual and totally reasonable.

It's all coming back to me... =)

I did eat at Dinosaur BBQ for a gigantic birthday party for a friend about two years ago--I do remember it being good. Would you say that Daisy's is better though?

I've never eaten at Daisy's, so I can't comment on it. I'm admittedly a snot about dining in midtown, and I think I'm prejudiced a bit against it b/c it gets recommended so much to tourists. I realize this is totally unfair, so forgive me!

If I had to pick my best BBQ outside Manhattan, I'd go with Fette Sau in Williamsburg. AWESOME!

Blue Smoke is the closest thing I've had to BBQ in Manhattan.

I agree that Blue Smoke is great...I will fight anyone to the death over their mac and cheese. I was at a wedding once catered by Blue Smoke. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!

It is not, however, inexpensive. In fact, it's probably the most expensive bbq in the city.
