Since there are golf courses all over the state, perhaps you might want to pick a general area first. Then perhaps someone would tell you a good course.
Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach would probably have the most courses in one area.

Little doubt that Myrtle Beach area will have more selection than probably anywhere in the world.
Choose a place to stay in that area and have 100 courses of any and all calibers within 30 minutes drive.

By "country" do you mean somewhere that's not near a town that has motels/hotels? What area are you interested in?
If you are interested in somewhere other than Myrtle Beach, do a google search for "Public Golf Courses in South Carolina." You will get the names of hundreds. Just pick the city you want. Santee has many, but it's not exactly "in the country."
I think that most of the courses at Myrtle Beach are public. All you would have to do is call ahead to get a tee time.

Wachesaw, Debourdieu and only a couple others are private.
Private courses like The Dunes Club can be played because many hotels have club memberships.
The best golf in the state is on The Grand Strand.
The ocean course at Kiawah is fantastic but their other courses don't measure up.
Ditto for Sea Pines in Hilton Head.

You have received advice from people who know what they are talking about. Kind of rude for you to imply otherwise. Of course, you could just ignore their advice and take your best shot. Good luck.

..."I need a place to play golf in late March or early April for a week with Dad and brother"
That was your original post wasn't it? I guess it was rather stupid of me not to know exactly what you wanted to know. I know that most people would have been able to read your mind.

He did put SC in the title, but I really don't get the attitude from the dude about people knowing what they are talking about. EXCUUUUSE me. WE DO have a condo at Litchfield. GoTravel lives there, as does Chuck--or in the neighborhood.
So Humps, get your own information, and be welcome to it. That is what Google is for--have at it. You seem to just KNOW it ALL already.
