Beach House on the Carolina/Georgia Coast

We are looking for a place to rent an "old fashioned" type house on the beach with lots of "southern" charm. We would like something in an area that isn't touristy and commercial. We love historical homes, plantations and history, and good restaurants. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Pawleys Island, SC and go to PawleysIslandRealty.com. No businesses on the island, single family homes, historic distric, some of the houses are 200 years old. It is one of the oldest settled barrier islands in the US.

Suugest you look at Sunset Beach, NC - access the realtor - Sunset Beach Properties. Quite neighborhood next to the beach - a 2 minute walk. Large houses, handle 8-10 no problem. Restaurants are decent in N. Myrtle Beach, only 15 minutes drive. I rent two per year, for the past five year - and so far, terrific. Good place to unwind, hit the beach and soak up a few rays. Eevenings are quiet, or if you hit MB, lively. Good place to cook.

I also suggest Sunset beach. Just returned from there. Look under Sunset Properties or BeachRentalDirect.com , this is where I found my last home. It overlooked the Intercoastal Waterway and it had a private pool. Close enough to North Myrtle if you want to go.
