Going to Yellowstone in Mid-April
Yay or nay ? (I know that the park does not totally open until Memorial Day.) Would you recommend going to Yellowstone for 3 or 4 days in mid-April ? We are not planning on camping. We will be flying in and out of Billings, Montana and if we don't see Yellowstone, we will drive around Montana instead.

This has been a winter of record or near record snowfall so roads that may have been open last year in April most likely will not this year. However, if you have no other opportunity to see the park, then by all means go. The road from Gardiner to Cooke City, MT is kept open all year and may be the only road open so plan accordingly. I'd bet that a snow covered Yellowstone would be an awesome sight.

Go see Yellowstone. If all you do is drive from Gardiner to Yellowstone, it still is worth it. I've been looking at pictures taken in Lamar Valley during the winter and I'd say its worth it.
Here's a link to the NPS website that talks about road openings. Just bear in mind that mother nature can overcome all that pretty quick. The roads start opening April 18.
