The Bronx-Marriott at Manhattan College is a ten minute walk to the 232nd St. shopping center in Riverdale (up the hill) where there are half a dozen restaurants available. The neighborhood is safe; I know because I used to live there and more recently visited my mother in a nursing home in the same neighborhood.

Michael, I can't find any website or reviews for this Marriott you're talking about. Have you stayed there? Can you provide an address or link?

I checked the Manhattan College website - the "area hotels" include hotels in Westchester and Manhattan, nothing in the Bronx. Nor is there anything listed on the Marriott website.

What's this?

http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl...ed=0CCAQ4gkwAQ

and a correction to my previous post, the shopping area is Johnson Ave. and 235th St.

I don't know what it is Michael. When you follow that link it just goes to the general Marriott website and if you select Bronx, NY the closest hotel that comes up is in New Rochelle and there's nothing I see in the Bronx. I grant something shows up on the map, but try to book it or get an address. Nada. There's also nothing on tripadvisor.

I just phoned the tel. number listed on that link. It's Manhattan College and it refers to the catering office and meal plans. My guess is Marriott runs their catering. I got a recorded message and there was no mention of guest rooms, only about food.

Michael: Even the college web site does not list that hotel as an option. And the address from your map is the same as the college itself. I can't find that hotel on the Marriott website -- though I did give up after about 5 pages of Marriott NY area properties.

I'm just following the public information according to bigbomoho's posting. He apparently stayed there. If that possibility exists, restaurants are available within a safe walking distance, and a bus to Montefiore is available when walking in the opposite direction. BTW, the URL I posted does not give Marriott-Bronx?

I phoned the number posted by bigbomoho and got the recording I mentioned. This may have been guest rooms at one time but it doesn't appear that it is now.

yes it does: Marriott-Bronx 4513 Manhattan College Parkway, NY 10471-4004 (I was only aware of the address because of your link -- not from bigbomoho's post)

So staying in the Bronx is not an option. The OP should probably stay in midtown Manhattan, close to the Lexington Ave. line and take the no. 4 (express in Manhattan) to the Bronx.

The original poster has disappeared. I don't know if we scared him or The Bronx did.

I hope it was the Bronx - and not us. I think everyone was trying to be helpful - but realistic.

I screwed up--hate leaving bad info. My wife tells me that we stayed at a Marriott managed property, but it was owned by Manhattan college. It was in the summer,so there werent many students there,so the Marriott rented rooms that were usually dorm rooms--now that i recall it was a very small room-Sorry
