we are going to Chicago for the US Open.. just a few questions please.... we are staying at The Knickerbocker is it nice ? Someone said that The Hotel 71 is better.... what are your thoughts on location and nightlife near the hotels ?? Also restuarants...Best Sushi ?? Best Steaks ?? how far to the golf tourny from hotel's.....Thanks for your help

A partial answer to your questions - as to location, you can't beat the Knickerbocker. It's across the street from the Drake and steps from N. Michigan Avenue. Ideal.

Hi Danny-I lived in Chicago for 8 years and loved it. Hope you do too. Your hotel is right off Michigan Avenue which is really fun. There are lots of shops and big department stores around there. If you head west a bit you hit Rush Street where there are some good restaurants and nightlife. I always loved Morton's, which is on State Street. Also try Gibson's for steaks and Tavern on Rush is a happening spot. Try Kamehachi up on Wells for sushi-they may have opened up another location closer to where you are but it's a short cab ride from your hotel. Mirai Sushi is also supposed to be very good. I enjoy the restaurants on Randolph-Marche (French), Vivo (Italian), and there is a sushi place there but I cannot remember the name. Have fun!!!

Olympia Fields is a little under 40 miles from North Michigan Avenue. It could take you 1 to 1.5 hours to get to the tournament. I would think about staying somewhere closer unless you are craving Chicago nightlife. Don't forget you will be paying for parking downtown - $25 a day or so.

I've stayed at the Knockerbocker several times over the years, and I love it. It's a good example of an old big-city hotel, with a comfy old-school lobby (with bar), candlelit restaurant off the lobby, and pleasant, not overly large rooms. Appointments aren't sumptuous (it's a business hotel primarily), but they're comfortable. You absolutely cannot beat the location-- just off Michigan Avenue, just north of the best of the Magnificent Mile, and a cab ride (or drive) to everything else.

Agree with Kamehachi - there is one on Ontario just east of St. Clair. That is closer to you. The sushi restaurant on Randolph is Sushi Wabi. There is also a newish sushi place on Randolph called Starfish that is supposed to be good. Mirai (2020 West Division) is good, as is Tsunami (1160 N. Dearborn). Mirai is in Wicker Park which is a very fun neighobrhood with lots of cool bars and shops. One of my favorite bars is The Map Room on Hoyne in Wicker Park (actually about 8 blocks from Mirai). The have beers from all over. I like Morton's for steaks and Gibson's for dessert. Keefer's is also really good and close to a lot of nightlife. If you like wine, stop in for wine flights at Bin 36 near Keefer's.
