Shopping and browsing around Fernandina Beach is fun- make reservations at Beech Street Grill for dinner- very good wine list. The end of October can have pleasant days- shorts or light pants, cool evenings. Think it'll be too chilly (water temp wise) for swimming, but it's perfect for biking around Ft. Clinch State Park or golfing. Tip: If you're in the area around Sat., 11/2, that's the GA-FLA football game, and many people stay at Amelia and go down for the game in Jacksonville.

I second Beech Street Grille. Very good food. I also recommend brunch at the Florida House Inn on Sun. If you're into good southern cooking, this is your place. It's served family style and the food is delicious, but definitely not low-cal. If you are into adventure, try the 1940's Bi-plane ride. You wear the helmet and goggles a la Amelia Earhardt. To this day I can't believe I let my husband convince me to doing it, but it was a beautiful view flying over the island and ocean. Now we did this several years ago, so don't know if they are still in operation, but the company is Island Aerial Tours Inc. The horse and buggy ride through downtown Fernandina was nice and the driver provided a nice bit of history. Fort Clinch was also very interesting. Most resorts and B&B's will have menus for most of the restaurants there and will be happy to recommend some. We ate at several others, but none stick out like Beech Street and Florida House Inn.

Have fun!

Stay in the old town @ a B & B they are all good. The bar @ the Florida House is a local hangout. The Fairbanks House has a pool. If you like the beach, try Elizabeth Pointe Lodge. Call Don @ the Healing Dome & get a massage. Visit Fort Clinch. Often times it is still possible to swim so typically a light jacket should be good for evenings. St. Augustine is also nice, about an hour away down A1A. Try AmeliaIsland.com or AmeliaIsland.org for futher info. For restaurants Beech Street, Brett's for lunch, Crab Trap (for guess), Shakespeares Kitchen (fine dining (locals), & The Florida House for family style dining.
